The porsche is in a different league in terms of driving to be honest but the Aston is much more special, sounds nicer and is a real occasion.

If I wanted a b road blast I would take the porsche. If I want to giggle at crackly banging noises the Aston lol

I picked up a Porsche Boxster 2.7 this summer and it's blown me away with how fun it is to drive. I've driven much much faster cars but the sense of connection with the road, getting to rev it out properly in each gear and the balance is just fantastic. I don't see myself selling it for a long time.

Boxsters are a total bargain ATM and a reliable car. The 987 gen 1 with the 2.7 are great and the gen 2 base with the 2.9 is a really great engine if you can stretch that far. Parts aren't as pricey for these things as you might think.

My wee 986 was a complete steal.

Goes reasonably well, sounds great and easy to drive, the mechanical grip is nuts! Its a car that you get in & just drive somewhere for the sake of it.

Off to look at a W203 tomorrow for a potential return to bangernomics for a bit.

2006 C180K Avantgarde SE auto with the Sport pack on it. 65K miles, FSH with timing chain changed and 1 owner from new.

Small bit of rust on rear door and a scrape on the bumper. We’ll see how bad the rust is. Facelift W203s usually don’t rust like the pre-facelift so probably quite minor. If it is, that £700 asking price will be a bargain.

Alas not to be. At least when it’s extended family it’s a bit easier to say no. You could tell it was an elderly man who owned it. Plenty of scrapes on it and a nice dint in the rear bumper.

Needed new discs and pads all round, and the steering was very heavy at low speeds. Coupled with the wheel being relatively off centre when driving, wasn’t sure if there was an issue with the rack or the heaviness is just the way they are. Didn’t feel right.

Could be a decent car for someone and it’ll sell quickly as they had a lot of interest. I just didn’t want another car where I was going to have to start spending money from the off.

I'd a C220cdi for a couple of years, cracking car, only sold it as had to get something bigger. They all suffer with rusty arches, mine had been sorted before I got it but could see a few micro bubbles beginning when I was selling. Great car for £700 even if it does need a few bits and bobs. I'd bother shifting mine as had 175k on it, first actual viewer bought it as it drove like new, mint interior and had everything done.
saw it for sale again almost two years later with 132k on it ^o) tbh don't think anyone would have questioned the miles.

Didn't go for it in the end. Just had that unsure feeling with a few of the issues that made me pass What's taken your fancy in the classifieds today? just no appetite to have to get things sorted from the off with it.

The other thing I left out was the handbrake. The hand release was a bit... slack and you needed to use your foot on the foot part of it and push it back towards you sometimes to get the light to go off.

Probably best to avoid, from memory the handbrake shoes are pinned into backing plates that can rot out and are a merc only part, could be a costly enough fix and you wouldn't know until you stripped down.
