I had a 1.3 pushrod. Took it to @suckindiesel house to pick up a mate and his dad popped out of the house to see it, heard it running and asked me if it was diesel :joy:

My mate had a Mk4 Escort RS Turbo replica with a 1.1 pushrod. It could rev!!

We pulled onto the main Newcastle road one day, headed for Brennan's petrol station and we were doing nearly 80mph in 2nd gear. He literally couldn't get it to blow up :grinning:

Great news
Funny I was thinking that when I was at the local hardware store yesterday putting conduit and skirting boards in the Touring
I’m driving a saloon at the minute and there are times I wish I’d held out for an estate. The car I was going to look at was a 308 estate and I ended up in a Passat saloon 🤷‍♂️😂

It’s not much fun standing outside Argos scratching your head looking at a box going oh sheet 🤣

Surely what you have is miles better? Honestly, the plates and that ridiculous light bar would put me off that car immediately. It just looks to me that someone doesn't give a sh*te about it.
Is the e46 regarded better than the e39? Genuine question as I’ve never been in, much less driven an e39.

I’ve always fancied the e39 and the 5 series in my mind is the natural next step from the 3 series. Also in my mind there’s more seat/leg room to suit my growing brats kids, albeit I would lose the use of the taller(?) boot space and the use of the “hatch”.

That’s lovely but would the touring not better for lugging round all the kids stuff.
As above really.

Personally I'd have your touring over that. Is he looking to swap..?
Yea he is indeed, says he needs an estate for his dog(s).

tbf id say if someone has gone to the bother of getting the plates and the light bar they have probs made an effort with it, all be it made some questionable choices haha nice colour and 3.0 be nice but the saloon boot would be a pain compared to the touring

I have no idea, my knowledge of BMWs is very limited, except for the fact I hated them up until I drove an E92 M3. I still dislike them, just like E92 M3s lol.

I just can't help but feel that you've spent so much time, effort and money getting your E46 in top order, only to change to a similar era E39 which will have all the same problems, but someone won't have fixed them. Potential money pit is all I'm thinking. But it's your choice, if it's a car you've wanted for a while and it seems straight enough it's a goer!

From what he tells me I’d be inclined to agree as he has stated that he has done a lot of similar work to his that I’ve done to mine.

New shocks, brakes, swirl flaps removed etc….

Obvs could be completely wrong but no tinted windows always makes me think its probably had older owners as well. Tints, spacers and dechrome would have it looking the part, the amount of rust would probs be the deciding thing for me.

Yea that would be the thing for me too. I know the sills are an issue on these as well as the usual front wings, rear arches, boot lid and the wee panel between the rear bumper and the boot lid.
If anyone wants closure yes I did get the box home even though the Argos man was standing there saying you’ve no mission mate 🤣
