SMG does take a little while to getting used, but when you get it mastered i'd say it is well suited to the car. CLS software smooths it out with slightly smoother changes and a nice down shift blip. loads of negative reviews about smg but for me its a winner.

if you keep your foot buried .... yes. But if you let of slightly (like driving a manual) in between gear changes, silky smooth. by no means perfect but you can live with it.

Definitely back looking at m cars again:yum

E46 M3, Coupe, Manual, FBMWSH, low miles & owners

This one looks good value too. Does the csl software make a big difference to the smg? Only smg box I’ve ever tried was an e60
E46 BMW M3 | in Lisburn, County Antrim | Gumtree

Yup the black one is mine, The SMG box is great when you get used to it and the CSL Firmware / Software make a serious difference to it, I have had quite a few of these over the years and I know them quite well. The SMG ECU itself is different in a CSL but the software and a few tweeks gets it as close as can be to the CSL shift.
My E46 is also for sale with a choice of wheels, The original 19" wheels with Michelin Super Sport tyres or a perfect set of 18" E46 M3 wheels on Continental Tyres, IMO the e46 drives the best on the 18s, Its just such a useable car.

If you want to see it or know more about it just give me a call, Its in the garage for winter. If it sells it sells :grinning:

Especially when below it they have a 118i se for 100 quid less a month! Still a lot of money to hand over monthly to end up handing back mind.

Final payment is 13k with their deposit of over 8k your buying it interest free with 3k off list price. Works out not too bad. Cheap way into a reasonably fast car.
Edit to add. I was never 1 for finance but after watching a good friend die who was 3 years older than me. **** it no point being the richest man in the grave yard. Better to die up to your eyes in debt than a bank account full of money the vultures will be fighting over. Enjoy it while you can.

Oh don't get me wrong, I'm not one for hanging on to money :joy:. I learned to stop counting the money in project cars early on, the money in my 5 series would equate to a lot of other things, but I'm enjoying myself so why not!

When you look at it that way, it is a cheap way into it. They're a cracking car by all accounts too.

If you can pay it then why not, I'm earning a decent wage now. Not scrimping by so like you it's time to enjoy myself. I thought it was a cracking deal pity it has 4 doors.

They are cracking deals I didn't realise the 140i was that quick. I have made my decision on what I'm buying after wrecking my head looking at cars, watching online reviews even test driving a couple of cars. It's hard to replace my focus they are fantastic cars great fun to drive and sound fantastic. Will be a nightmare to sell though. I'm not at home much so hoping I get a quick sale.
Jim if you are interested in a M140i, take a look on the Babybmw.net forum. TRL does some cracking deals on them. He has both 3dr and 5dr models.
