40k per year is 160 miles every day, Monday to Friday.

I’d want to be in something really comfortable and unless fuel was being paid, reasonably frugal too.

A saloon is going to be easier to run than a SUV although if it were me, I’d be looking at a nice coupe shape, so that’s leaving 4 series or A5 or even a nice Passat cc

Here’s even a couple in DSC which may fit the bill

I would honestly move rather than do that many miles commuting. Shocking. Is public transport not an option?

I’ve done 1000 miles in one week in my FF Range Rover but would definitely not want to make a habit of it unless someone was paying the fuel.

S lines and m sports to do 40k a year. Nope. Did 15k a year in the 335i and that was brutal enough and that was a SE.

Get one of these, won’t go wrong, and very nice places to sit.

I just found a great car on Auto Trader:

Currently driving an IS300h and would recommend one as a mile muncher, nice place to sit.

Early S90 Volvo would be a bit over budget. Never driven one but have been in one and reckon it would be a nice place to do some miles!
