Yeah, I'm sure you'd happily give up your slot to see a WRC round here. Friggin class!!

It was almost here a handful of years ago, then it couldn't run as it was Stormont that was funding it, and they collapsed.

I think we all know it's going the same way, but hopefully the bank transfer is done to WRC, first.
Left open or stolen…
I jest. I’d love to see a WRC round over here
I assume a new set of road-closing orders isn't easy, and it's best to jump on the back of an established set of previous used closures?

There are a limited number of Road closing orders available in a year, the distribution of which is managed by rules set down by the ANICC. I’d imagine if a WRC round needed an extra one they would be able to get it

I've seen a diesel van with one of those "sound generators". Was set to sound like a Nascar V8, lol, still went like a diesel van :joy:

Can't see the point of it on a rally car or any other race car to be honest. Just a gimmick, like the "enhanced" engine sound through the speakers on most modern sport cars...

Just be true to what it is.

Ford have one of those stupid sound generators that is built into the exhaust (basically a speaker type thing plumbed in) on the options list for Ranger Raptor. Supposed to make your 2.0 biturbo derv sound like a V8. What a crock of 💩

The sound of a competition car is a big part of its appeal, but the sound tells us more than just being a nice noise.
With a traditional competition car we use sound to tell when they are changing gear and when they are braking. It lets us know how hard the driver is trying.
We went to see Loeb when he was in Cork. There was a bit of a straight and then a left hander. Everyone braked for the corner, some changed down a gear, but Loeb didn't even lift off the throttle. We knew from the sound that he was in a different league.

I'm a big fan of electric cars, but we will lose a lot of the emotion involved in watching motorsport if we cant tell what is happening in the car.
Off the start line, tyre squeal then quiet, approach a corner, quiet, round a corner, tyre squeal, out of sight, quiet.

Do we use big lights on the roof? Green light is on when the throttle is presses, red light when the brake is pressed.
Or a big speaker. Spaceship noise when accelerating, popping noise when the brake is pressed.

Squid game rally, I like that!! 😂

But yeah, we had the same thing almost.
Were we were on a stage nearby, all the locals genuinely decelerated, down 2 gears, through a slight kink over a bridge and accelerated up a big hill. Loeb pulled 6th through the middle of the kink 😳😳😳

Yep, they sound good. Though that won't appease the 'Group B was the best and fastest, 11ty hundred million bhp' types who conveniently forget the Group A cars were faster over a stage :joy:

I still do wonder how they make them 'safe' after an off, given how often marshals, spectators etc help push cars out. Like the way you see the delay with touching a F1 car.

I believe it is a standardised hybrid system, so probably encased in a safety cell and situated in a specific area etc. The hybrid system is likely a token 'green' gesture for the Greta's so probably as much power in an iPhone, Safe as houses 😂

Surely no spectators nor anyone else for that matter will be allowed anywhere near those cars until marshals have made them safe. The days of pushing then back out must be gone now.

And marshals will need new training in how to make them safe, deal with battery fires, etc.

But it is the way all top motorsport is going. Like it or not doesn't matter.

As for group B, a modern WRC car has been much quicker for a long time now with half the power. That's modern suspension, drive, tyres, etc. for you.

Group B still are and always will be the best though, and the group B drivers proper gladiators 😁

There will never be anything like it ever again.

Supposedly, they are developing a 180deg GPS enabled safety camera for each car, to monitor both competitor safety & spectator positioning, all live

Also, fair play to Seb Ogier.

Man is teflon. With him not doing a full season, will 2022 be Evans year? 🤞

Mammoth shunt for Neuville today. Just goes to show how far safety has came along in rallying (along with Tanak's Monte crash last year) but that car is definitely a write-off

A better picture of the damage from Neuville’s crash. Very lucky and testament to the safety of these cars.
If Hyundai don’t have another chassis ready to go for testing, they’re really on the back foot now

I think I read over the weekend, that the car will, in the event of a crash, flash the lights in different colours to indicate whether its approachable or not. Who is going to take notice or know what colour is what? Will the livery have to have a Health and Safety manual and disclaimer??

Don't know, I doubt the Finnish lads running to a car with a tow rope would take much notice 😂

3 different lights. Green, amber and red (with and alarm for red).

Anyone can touch the car on green, marshals when yellow, specialised responders when red and an alarm is sounding.
