I regularly watch old WRC videos on YouTube of that era. It was class.

Citroen, Ford, Hyundai, Mitsubishi, Peugeot, SEAT, Škoda and Subaru.

Plus it was the best era for drivers.

I did a test in an Evo 2 Accent WRC. What a machine that was then in contrast sat for a test with Lasse Lampi in Subaru. Night and difference the cars. Good times.

Yeah and the Accent would have been at the lower end of the pile in terms of WR cars at that time, yet still mind blowing I'm sure. The P2000 scooby was the car that the first WRC Impreza should have been in 97, their unreliability cost Colin McRae more championships for sure.

Cordoba WR car around 99 I guess.

Loved them.and the Octavia WR car.

98/99 is peak rallying for me.

Between WRC and F2 there were 13 full supported works teams. 13.

That’s 10 more than we have now.

Each one of them was developing cars, drivers, tyres, testing in local rallies, competing in domestic championships, selling ex-works cars etc.

We didn’t know just how good we had it back then.

Exactly that. Remember at one point Irish Tarmac Championship had 38 ex-works WR cars in the field.

Just class.

And as many helicopters in Donegal around the same era...

I was chatting to Chris Patterson there today at an event. He's still involved with Greensmith and sounds like he'll be at the full season with the team. He sits with him on PET and stuff like that still.

We counted 27 helicopters were in the field beside Milford mart in ‘07.

It was mad.

Donnelly had a second s12b sitting in gear running on axle stands in service ready to take any parts off that he needed. Rallying in Ireland in the 05-09 era was mad.

R5’s are getting to be the same now. 30 entered for Galway.
How many of them are FIA Rally 2 "R5's" though?

Hopefully being an international event, they don't allow the "plus" modifications as seen in almost all of the NIRC cars.

I see KG Motorsport have an R5+. I take it they have a bigger restrictor?

Apparently some are running a 2ltr engine as opposed to the standard 1.6ltr.

I thought they just opened up the restrictor.

AFAIK, larger restrictor and there is a boost valve that gets removed, to increase the turbo pressure.

An FIA R5 car has a leak valve type thing that opens at a certain point of boost. So hypothetically, all cars can't get more than 25psi of boost, or whatever the FIA say it needs to be.

Those running plus spec in NI, run in what I'd know as the GrpA class, I think.

I heard of what car that's fitted with a 2.0-litre. A Skoda, I think.

Cathan Mc Courts gravel car is a R5 fiesta shell with a 2.0 focus engine and running gear.

Originally built by Barry McKenna to run in the US.

Think it’s the only 2.0 “R5”.

There is one other 2.0-litre car in the NI series.

Has WRC started this year? Coverage is awful and it annoys me that only some teams/drivers run certain races. Competition isn't great is it? Or am I talking BS?

Yea. Hyundai, Toyota and M-Sport with some help from Ford.

The fact most it’s hidden behind a paywall just ruins it. Why would any new manufacturer/s want to throw millions of €s at it only for it to be wasted as nobody would see it?

If you missed Monte-Carlo you missed a real treat. It was an excellent rally.

RedBull TV show daily highlights for free.

WRC+ Is absolutely fantastic. Unbelievable coverage. I usually just have it on the kitchen TV all weekend from Thursday to Sunday on rally weekends

Dirtfish is the red top newspaper of rally coverage. Pure click bait. Colin Clark is a clown and is still sucking Adamo’s balls and giving him coverage .

Unbelievable run by Jon Armstrong on SS3 in Croatia - fastest JWRC by c. 30s and faster than the majority of Rally2 cars whilst in a Rally3
