The first time i got insurance in my own name it was £2000 for a 94' Fiat Tipo 3rd party.... I was 20 at the time and had been driving since 17, no accidents no claims and i even have my advanced driving test..... As soon as you say MALE, UNDER21 and NORTHERN IRELAND, the ££££ $igns light up and they can charge whatever they like. And incidently a 94 Corsa(1.4 flair) in my name cost me £1450 and my new car 2000 Acoord 2.0vtec only cost me £1675...so how do they work that out?

I've nothing personally to be jealous of, I'm very happy with my life but don't like it when ppl get everything handed to them on a silver plate.

marc i think it really hits home on the poorer person when somebody aged 17-21 is running around with a m3 and then writes it off. they know mummy and daddy are just gonna get them a new one. they dont care.

i aint saying that all of them are bad drivers i am just saying that it only takes a few to tarnish the class.

@bronk: we all know fine well gary can handle the scobby when he actually drives it and not the jag.

hmm young drivers on brand new sports cars, yes it is sickening that they are so lucky to have one to own, i feel privilaged enough that my dad lets me put him as the main driver on my new beasty and me as the named driver, im just wasting my savings on a car , silly i know but its a passion! and roping dad into paying for a bit of petrol helps to lol, i just have to keep reminding him yes he did want this car he did its superduper and he can drive it!

McMullen 19 year old drives a 850i BMW pimped out from Lisburn, not bad at that age, although i know he's on traders insurance aswell.

Example number two: E46 BMW M3 Coupe (blue I think) being driven by a fellow who could have been long sfter the 21st birthday. Apparently from the Lisburn direction.

Blonde, spikey hair? If so, thats Alex. He is 21, and his dad bought it for him. He also has a 330CI.

yes..........i know him as rich alex. i am very jealous of his moneys.

as for the tramps that drive great cars i can only wonder where they got their money from :?:

yeah rich alex, he got smoked by my mate in his scoob.

Alex is a mate of mine, also has a Focus RS(not sure if he still has it) and an Escort Cossie

doesn't really bother me tbh. Its a fact of life that some people are better off than others, or are in better circumstances. no point worryin too much about it...

what would worry me though, is the thought of me at 19 with something so powerful. I'd have probably written myself off by now!

The chances are most ppl are under traders insurance or company insurance. I can drive my dad's car, watever it is under the company he works for's fleet insurance. He changed from a scoob to a mitsi galant before i turned 17 unfortunately.

In saying that tho, a few weeks ago he came home with a brand new evo 8 fq300 (a courtesy car while his was gettin serviced) and handed me the keys. Was immense but i was so ridiculously careful cause it wasent mine. Was so funny, me and BBSBOY's wee bro drivin about in an evo, my dream car.

The way i see it is if some1 has worked hard for their money and want to buy their kids a nice car then go for it, but it could be a terribly bad thing also when they get a call to say their child has wrapped it round a lamp post.

Alway like to see decent cars on the road so no problems with who is driving them.
Remember that a 40K car to some folk is like us buying a 10K one!

Something just came to mind: when was the last time you heard of a high performance car driven by a "kid" being involved in a fatal incident? It always seems to be corsas/saxos etc in those type of news reports so maybe those that are given high performance cars are already used to them and give them the respect they require? :?

not many "kids" have high performance sports cars so the odds are stacked against them anyway ;)

one of my biggest hates, is "young cubs" getting cars bought for them. all these ones flying about in their corsas + clios does my head in. but, there comes a point when the parents' income goes past the level of normality, into rich, when they're obviously going to get a car bought + insurance paid, and it becomes more acceptable. <this is proving quite tricky to explain by typing>.

albeit, seeing sam duff of s+r electrics fame, driving round in a 330ci cabriolet at 22, an others in the same boat, still winds me up, regardless of it being "ok"
