The April car race meeting takes place at Kirkistown Circuit in County down on Saturday 27th April 2019.

The Kirkistown Saloons do not have the Irish Touring Cars with them this time but the Future Classics may be on the same grid, to provide another mega-line-up! Belfast’s Stephen Traub (Civic) heads the entry in his Honda Civic, while Legenderry’s Gavin Kilkey will be hoping to repeat his double victory in the BMW 330i class. The GTs run concurrently with the Saloons but, to date, only Gerard O’Connell, from Dungiven, has entered, with his amazing 2.8 Ford Escort silhouette. However, even on it’s own, this car is amazing to watch.

In the Future Classics, Ger Byrne, from Tinahely, in his BMW 323i and Aidan Byrne, from Dublin, in a Toyota Celica, should be at the sharp end.  Mike Dermody is bringing his well-prepared Opel Vectra from Carlow.

At the time of writing, the entries for the Dawson-WAM N.I. FF1600 races are thin on the ground but the main contenders for the championship should all be there.  Scott Finlay, from Lisburn, has entered. He had a great start to the season in March and will be chasing his first podium at this meeting. Ballyclare’s Mike Todd makes a welcome return, as does Ballymena’s Ryan Campbell. Andrew Blair, from Doagh, has entered and these three should be very close, with Blair possibly having the edge, since the other two will be a bit rusty!

The Roadsports are combining with the Global GTs and will have a rolling start for both races.  This will suit both Jim Larkham and Ivor Greenwood in their Radicals.  Greenwood, from Dundrod, won in March but this will only have made Larkham, from Newtownabbey, more determined. Of course, Paul Conn, from Lisburn, in his Crosslé 47s will be in the middle of the action and could well out perform both of them!

There is a very good field of 10 Global GTs at the time of writing. These cars are extremely evenly matched and fast.  Conor Farrell, from Blackrock, will be worth watching.

The Legends make a welcome return for three races. These 5/8th scale replicas of 1940s American Stock cars, powered by 1000cc Yamaha engines, usually provide a slip streaming master class.Ivor Greenwood is entered in this class, as well as the Roadsports, and will be hard to beat but Paul O’Brien, from Naas will be giving him a hard time.

The new Mazda MX5 class will have a few more entries since March with father and son, Jim and Robert Kennedy, from Crossmaglen, joining Nutt’s Corner’s Eórann O’Neill, Ballyhalbert’s David Cousins and Lisburn’s Stephen Murray. Running concurrently will be the Kirkistown Fiestas. After a poor turn-out in March, things are looking up, with entries including Michael Mulholland, from Carrickfergus, Mark Stewart, from Belfast and Desi McGlade, also from Belfast.

There will be three races for the incredible SuperKarts. These machines lap the circuit in under a minute and are breath taking to watch!

Qualifying starts at 9:00am and the first race should be around 11:00am. Kirkistown is family friendly, with great facilities on the infield, including a café and a bar. There are also great viewing points at various bends, all of which are easily accessible.

Entry for this meeting is just £10 per adult. Children under 16 years go free.
