For 2022, the SW Adair Tyres is taking on a retro angle with the launch of a new class for historic cars.
From the first round of the 2022 SW Adair Tyres Northern Ireland Sprint Championship, scheduled to take place on Saturday 5 March, at Nutts Corner Circuit, a new Historic class has been added to the championship class struNorthern Ireland Sprint Championship cture.
The new class is to cater for “Historic stage rally cars produced before 31 December 1982 which meet Historic Category 1, Category 2 and Category 3 requirements as defined in the 2022 Motorsport UK yearbook.”
The Championship Co-Ordinator, David Evans said, “This new class is to cater for many historic rally cars in the country which don’t get used often enough due to the higher expenses associated with rallying.
“By giving them their own class, separate from the more modern and modified rally cars, we can rewind the clock to the days of old and enjoy the beautiful historic rally cars all competing again together as they did back in the day!”
Evans continued, “In regards to the overall series, this year’s championship currently has a total of 92 registered competitors. With many still to register, it looks set to be a tight battle not only for the overall honours, but right throughout the various classes, too.”
This year’s championship covers a total of nine rounds, held at three venues, and will finish at Kirkistown Racing Circuit at Halloween.
