Ideally it's between a 1.8T A4 Quattro or an Impreza, I think I'm settled on one of those.

Nice maroon classic impreza on Gumtree.

That's the VR6 engine isn't it? It's nice but don't think it quite meets the 'racey' requirement aside from drinking petrol like a race car. Think I'd still have a Legacy. Spotted one on the road myself yesterday and had a minor inner hankering that I had to talk myself out of.

I just meant more racey than a TDi octavia or bora I'm more used to.

Serious car for the money, and under half the budget.

If you're not going to do big miles that passat v6 could be the business. Subtle outside, decent interior and its an estate. No turbo to go wrong either.
Ticks a lot of boxes and its very reasonably priced.

That's my thoughts too. No timing belt either, or DMF.

Interior is rather special too.

It may be timing chain but if its anything all the other vr6 based lumps itll need chain tensioners at some point and they are big dough. Even r32 and equivalent audi's suffer. So dont just buy one thinking a its chain its grand

If you were buying an estate you'd be far better off with a volvo. Much better interior than any VW. You MIGHT be able to find a V70R for around 4k

Is the R or any other Volvo (apart from the XC) 4WD?

Peronsal taste with regards to the interiors, I think Volvo ones are hateful.

Cannot decide between these 2;

http://www.gumtree.com/p/cars-vans-motorbikes/volkswagen-passat-v6-4-motion-12-months-mot/1008285449

http://www.utvdrive.co.uk/car/423684/2002-subaru-impreza-wrx-turbo-awd-balllymena/

Passat has all the toys and comfortable interior, and is half the price. Whereas I can't help but feel the impreza would be more reliable, with no VAG sensors and warning lights to fail.

Pickled :worried:.

You cannot decide on the Internet. You need to view both and see what they are like, as one may be a dog.

Watch with the UTVdrive site too, as half the cars I called about had been sold, they are V slow updating their website.

Impreza is still there, dropped £700 in last couple of days.

It's had 4 owners and had missed 2 services, but has had belt done.

Edging towards Passat to be honest, estate etc is probably more sensible for what I need. Will go for a look on Monday.

Of those two I'd go for the Passat, but them I'm always biased towards VW.
Wonder how much it would cost to fix the headlamps on the Subaru.
What happened the Volvo idea? Some Volvo's have the most excellent seats.

If you are buying the impreza over the passat as you think it will be more reliable, you have another thing coming to you lol
