That air freshener is class lol. Need me one!
£2.99 on eBay 😉

I ran the machine polisher over it today and topped it off with some Anachem Hybrid. My lord, Hybrid smells amazing! Cheaper than aftershave.

Also put the hardtop away. I prefer it with the hardtop on but it’s 22 degrees C in Germany and I’ve no aircon, so worried I’d cook.

I live in the least photogenic area of this wee country and I’m crap taking pictures, so here’s some more rubbish pics of it, this time beside some type of substation thing.

Actually happy with the driveway at the minute. I’ve a 400bhp kiddie carrier, a rusty old MX5 for roof down posing/track days, and a 90s Jap classic which I can’t stop gawking at when the garage door is up.

Standing here thinking it’s amazing that all three cars in total cost me less than a new Ford Fiesta…..

(the running costs though ffs! 😭)

Those wheels make that car tbh, perfect match for it. Take it handy on the 'ring, it's class!

Last weekend nine of us travelled back to the Nurburgring for a long weekend. It was my fourth time there and it never fails to disappoint.

First day's travel was home to Larne-Cairnryan ferry then down the boring A75 to Carlisle and across the A69 to Newcastle Upon Tyne on to the overnight ferry to Amsterdam. As expected we got a bit carried away in the bar and were all pretty pissed before the boat even left the port ffs, and with the cabins all feeling like 9 million degrees overnight, it's fair to say there were a few rough heads next day.

We bumped in to a guy on the ferry who was a regular to the Ring and he suggested a couple of museums worth stopping at on the way down. We picked the Classic Remise in Dusseldorf Englisch which wasn't much of a diversion, and jeez, I'm glad we did. Based in an old locomotive shed, this place looked to be a storage facility for a ton of amazing cars and motorbikes, plus some working workshops, and a car dealers. The place was also free to walk in and look around. I never thought I'd stand next to one Jaguar XJ220, never mind two in the one roof! Any idea what the Ferrari is under the cover? I didn't want to ask but wondered if it was an F40?

After that it was an hour and a half drive to Adenau, bags and tools dropped off at the house and over to the Nurburgring for a lap. The carparks round the Nurburgring over the whole weekend mainly consisted of the usual Porsche GT3s, BMW M3s from E30 to E46, Megan RSs and new for me this year were lots of GR Yari.

Also lots of unusual oddball stuff. I was tortured the whole first lap by a local in a Smart FourTwo ffs! lol

(PS. I did buy some pics - later posts)

Day Two.

Back up to the Nurburgring for a quick run around but temperatures were starting to soar, and there were a couple of lengthly red flags, so I only got one lap in in the morning. Thankfully no Smart cars but KITT made an appearance. There's a video on Youtube of him coming off the track at one point.

There was a massive car meet out at the carpark at Brunchen (Youtube Corner) so we headed out there for a look. From what we could figure out there's a local kid who's dying wish was to have a car show, so one of the local clubs organised it. And there were hundreds of cars there. Lots of American stuff, Italian and German cars of all eras.

Day 3

I'd booked the Apex M3 Ring Taxi to take the nine of us round on the Sunday morning. Late on the night before they rang me to say the transmission is gone on it and they have nothing to take us out in. We could either have our money back or they'd give us a BMW 218i for a few hours. After a message on one of the Nurburgring Facebook forums we got sorted by the original Ringtaxi guys who got us a BMW M5 CS.

1655737755921.jpeg

(This pic is of the second M5 CS. I didn't get a chance to get a pic of the first one because....)

First three of us went out. The track wasn't busy and we waited for our turn when it came back. But, it didn't come back. When the first bunch went out the M5 was passed by one of the Mercedes GTR taxis, who then braked suddenty causing the M5 to crash in to the back of it. All the airbags went off and it was finished.

The Ringtaxi people were obviously really good to us after that and looked after us until they brought a second M5 over later that afternoon.

The same driver took us out in the afternoon, and was saying in 15,000 laps that's the first accident he's been in lol

The rest of Sunday was uneventful. Very few yellow flags. The temperatures were really hot though - mid-40s track temps, and I was a little worried about pushing the MX5 too hard.

Day 4 and 5 were just driving days. Day 4 up to Amsterdam for the ferry and yet again the Dutch out-do themselves as being some of the worst drivers I've ever shared a road with.

Day 5 was a boring run back up the A75 to Cairnryan, then home.

993 miles in total over the long weekend, and the wee MX5 didn't miss a beat. I actually enjoyed driving it more than I did the S3 and the Supra. From the factory it's a better setup wee thing than those cars and all it really needed was decent rubber and brakes. It carried plenty of speed in the corners but not enough power where it could have got me in to trouble. I'd love to take it back, if it survives until then.

Nice trip and good to see the 5 didn't disgrace itself. (y) (y)
I'd be sh1tting myself going there without a steel roof or a cage in a 5 tbh, I was nervous enough doing it in my 155 lol.

This is great, I’m still dreaming about going to the ring at some point.
The pictures with the roof down is really making me want to get a roadster again.

Class trip that and great write up! Love the way you use the MX5, and it looks great on the new wheels as well.

Proper jealous would have loved a Ring trip this year. Maybe next year 🤞🏻
