Similar thing happened to me at Ards MOT centre
Failed for rusty pipes. Told to take off rust, so cleaned them down to the metal.
Retest failed - pitted. Told to cover pipes up, so painted them with a plastic coating.
Rest failed - Pipes not visible.
Fitted new pipes - passed.
What would be your interpretation of this?

Been quoted £150-200 depending on what joints are seized etc
I would guess if it's a 5 series it's the pipes which come down the side of the tank and split to each side of the axle. Go back and ask the centre if unsure.What would be your interpretation of this?
