Update, we were contacted by the police today to say the vehicle was being sent back to the recovery depot.?! I have just gone out and used the money to buy a vectra, also all our personal property is and has been in a storage room in creightons since the 17th December 2014. We were told the car was de-polluted and stripped (whatever that means) and the items within the car disposed of. to now the car is ok and we have your property? We have told them to keep the car as we no longer have the money to pay for their storage fees because we thought the car was gone and needed another car. So need to go down and get the car seat and the rest of our stuff.

Wife was at the solicitors today and they believe her to have a case, the liaison officer is tracking down who we were talking to about getting an extension on providing the registration as we didn't have it, and being reassured the car would be ok until then. The solicitor says we weren't notified of the car going to the auction, and the paperwork the police handed my wife at the scene and no information on the recovery agency. Also the police officer we talked to was to contact the officer involved in the seizure to contact creightons and ask them to delay any destruction or sale of the vehicle as we were waiting for the proper documentation

But why should that stop stevie on an anti police rant? The car hasn't been stolen, it has been LEGALLY seized for a road traffic offence that has provision in the order for seizure and IF NECESSARY destruction.
I'd dare say if you were hit by an uninsured driver we wouldn't hear the end of it and it would be trotted out at every opportunity.

Where did I say anything anti-police here ? Ahh, nowhere..

Just because the law has been twisted and changed to make something legal, still does not make theft of someones property right.

Theft is theft, you can disagree all you like, but it is still theft.

I'd dare say if you were hit by an uninsured driver we wouldn't hear the end of it and it would be trotted out at every opportunity.

I was hit by an insured driver. It still destroyed my van...would this damage have been any more severe if the driver was not insured ? Maybe they'd have driven more carefully and avoided the accident ?

And I can tell you that dealing with the insurance company that time was anything but smooth....so really, it couldnt be a lot worse if they were not insured. MIB would cover it anyway.

And actually I was hit by an uninsured driver about 20 years ago. It was actually resolved much easier than when the insured driver hit me.

Instead of bull**** laws that allow people to steal your belongings....the government could easily eliminate uninsured drivers ( a problem they created ) by adding basic third part legal cover to fuel. Job done. Their problem completely wiped clean in one swoop.

Clearly their current approach of creating problems and then dreaming up idiotic "solutions" which dont actually solve anything...is more profitable for them.

We were told the car was de-polluted and stripped (whatever that means)

In otherwords they sold the stolen goods to a vehicle dismantler. All fluids were removed, oils, antifreeze, fuel etc and they've started to sell bits from it.

If you do get it back in any state where it might run, bare in mind there will be no oils or fluids, so dont even try and start it until it's been properly checked over.

Sorry but why would a car apparently worth over £4k be sent for breaking?
There's far too many people in the salvage business seemingly overly keen to get their mits on cars for breaking for very little reason / authority.
The lack of any allowance for discretion on the part of the laws that police have to enforce means this sort of ***** is happening all too often. The costs of a mistake are now way beyond what they should have been. Ridiculous carry on.

It really is @FM155 and recovery companies have a total foothold on the whole industry, especially were the Police contracts are concerned.

I looked at the possibility of buying a recovery truck years ago and through a few contacts & friends started making inroads about how I might gain Police recovery jobs etc. What I found out was shocking, there is a very good reason why certain companies dotted throughout the province have held onto these contracts for so long.

@Robin1987 you my friend are not having much luck at the minute. I think your first port of call should be to go and inspect the car as soon as it arrives back into Creightons yard to see what condition it is in. If it is not exactly how it was when recovered it could be a blessing for you as at least you will have another reason why you cannot take it back. Just maybe be prepared for a cold reception, someone there will have got a bit of heartache over all this.

Where was your new keeper supplement of the V5 when you bought it, was that not enough??

So now they seem to have found your car, you are just going to leave it there ?
I know it's a big storage bill to settle but surely, credit card it or bank loan/borrow from parents etc then sell the alfa.
Pay it back and still have money in the bank....

Can't afford to pay the car fee now, I've exhausted all avenues to getting money on loan with no luck.

@Ben P the owner failed to give me the documents until I paid it off, it was from a private dealer who offered monthly payments, after I paid it off I asked for the documents, from what I gathered they were lost in the post or never existed, got a full check on the vehicle, all was ok and the DVLA sent out a new one which I recieved the other day.

Not one bit surprised, heard similar before.

Had a bit of a run in with creightons last year had my car stolen was missing for about 8 weeks turned out that had it lifted the next morning so they tryed to charge me for the 8 weeks when I went to collect it I told them that they had only phoned me and I was only paying for the recovery and not the storage then they said just sign the car over to us if you can't afford it

Ok this all makes a little more sense now as A few dealers I know do the very same thing. The reason you've had difficulty in getting the docs is because the dealer is the legal owner of the car until they are paid in full.
Because your wife was stopped without insurance there was a strong chance they (Dealer) would have had to accept a proportion of the blame for allowing a car to be driven without insurance, it was technically their car at the time remember. For this very reason they won't have sent the documents.

Ok that aside, technically it is your car in full now so you need to sort something out. If you don't I would be worried you are going to run up additional charges for storage, lets face it Creightons are not going to do you any favours

Seems a shame to let a £4k car go just because you cant get the money for the storage. Is there literally no other source to borrow the money? In the long run you're going to be out more if you lose the car surely?

I've never heard of a dealer offering their own personal finance ?

Normally you borrow from the finance company, the car then belongs to them not the dealer. Never the dealer ?
So any issue with V5 would be between finance company and the car buyer...but given there is a signed agreement in place, the V5 should be going to the new owner. Not the finance company.

You could almost say the corruption within this thread is shocking, except we all should know it's little surprise

@stevieturbo really ? very common actually since the recession meant so many people could not get proper finance.
Best of it is most give better rates than the actual finance companies

It could be a small local dealer, basically

customer walks in

Car is £4000
Customer only has £3250
Dealer says ok, £300 a month for next 3 months and you get the ownership transferred into you name and V5 etc.

So the dealer is financing the outstanding amount out of his own pocket, but its probably his profit he is getting over the next 3 months and not out of pocket should something go awry.

Could you not get a payday loan as last resort to pay the storage then sell the car quick and pay the payday loan, you'd still be left with a brave chunk of money from the sale of the car
