Bought this recently as I discovered from the couple of times my young daughter (21 months) had been in my works van she loves being high up and seeing around her. Also moving to my version of the countryside (Ballynure) I thought something 4WD would be handy during the winter and for taking the 2 dogs up the forest.

So after @Laundrymike kindly bought my VRS Octavia estate off me the hunt was on. Fast forward a few months of looking at absolute sheds this popped up on market place, Advertised late on a Saturday local enough to me and ended up bringing it home on the Sunday morning.

We also discovered after bringing it home that my daughter cant say the letter J for the life of her just yet so hence its not affectionally called "EEP"!

Plans were to just keep it standard but that lasted all of 2 days lol. few mods planned for it so will update as I go along. Already have a bench of stuff to get fitted over the next while.

Parents love theirs, onto their second one - previous was a grey manual, I think 2011?

Now in a facelift 2014 auto model

This ones a 2007 manual HSE so is decent spec. I'd of preferred the auto myself tbh but this was by far best condition/price I'd seen over the last couple months so had to come home.

Had found a small split in the house going into the throttle body so got round to replacing it today with a silicone hose.

While underneath also changed the one coming off the turbo.

I have the 2 for the intercooler to but it requires the bumper to come off so going to save that for a warmer day.

Have Brembo front discs and pads ordered as this is the state of the inside of the front discs
PXL_20230114_134028088.jpg

Had ordered some new bleed nipples for the front calipers as the old ones looked pretty crusty so threw them on too.

Next up is to fit a set of Rallyflapz and source a set of 17" alloys to fit some All Terrains to.

Bit more work done over the weekend. Noticed the aux belt was looking worse for wear so replaced the belt, tensioner and idler pulley.

PXL_20230127_125255317~2.jpg

Also fitted new front Brembo discs and pads as they were cheapo's that had been fitted previously.

Picked up a set of 17" Freelander 2 GS alloys with basically new winter tyres on them. The spare is a 17" so wanted to keep them all the same size. Once the winter tyres are done I'll be putting AT's on them. Fitted mudflaps from Rallyflapz also which I think look class. Probably not to everyone's liking but I think they look well.

(I have new centre caps on order for the alloys.)

Big girl had her first breakdown today. Noticed driving back from the forest that something didn't sound right.

Got home to the aux belt had basically split in half along it's length. Alternator has completely **** the bed.

Is there still businesses who rebuild them or I'm I better just ordering a new one?

Frazer Auto Electrics outside Lisburn do them I think. The last one I asked them to do was for the MX5 and they said they couldn't get the bits for it. They sold me a cheapy chinese replacement which was garbage and went in the bin shortly afterwards and replaced with a good used one.

If they can get the bits, they do a good enough job, I've had a few done by them. From memory, there was a boy in Ballyclare used to do them but that's a while back now.

Try CJ Collins Auto Electrics in Doagh. He's at the start of the Ballymena line in the village

Ended up throwing the head up and just ordering a new one, got an Alanko one cheap enough looking at reviews on them they seem decent. Just have to wait 2-3 years now for autodoc to deliver 😂

We've a 2014 GS for the last 7 years, bought it as a 2 year old trade in at agnew mallusk with very low miles and we've put 100k on it. I run it on Uniroyal all seasons which I think suit it rightly, not afraid to take it up some dodgy paths for the craic and eats up miles on a long run with no bother. Be hard to replace when the time comes.

We use this one mainly for dog duties and during the winter. Only has 103k on it so should be grand for a few years yet. Would be in the same boat as yourself when it's time to replace I can't think of what would take its place. Maybe a 2.2 disco sport.

Bad things happen in 3's... this is number 2 for the jeep in a week hopefully number 3 won't pull my pants down and bend me over like these last two have..

Exhaust bracket had broken the same day as the alternator. I thought I just needed a bracket so crawled under today to see what I needed to order. Turns out I need to order a new rear subframe 😂😂 FML.

Grim, hopefully not too expensive to fix. Will you give it a stab yourself?

Hope it gets sorted, dibs on your jack if it doesn't lol
Life Eagle GIF

MOT in November so I'll have to sort it before then. To be fair it doesn't look to bad of a job to do, just sore on the wallet. There's a place in Downpatrick (Eurosubframes) sell a complete rear subframe and arm kit think I'll just got for that.

Looking at about £700 for parts. Aye I'll tackle it myself, all part of the fun 😂

There's a small crusty patch on the chassis leg above the rear subframe on mine, looks like it'll be a pain in the hole to sort without dropping the subframe.

BTW, I want the jack for my MX5 as they are a great high lift, high weight capacity jack and have a 16mm hex on them too for buzzing up quickly with the wheel gun. Great for wheel changes on events. I have a sill reinforcement welded in at the balance point between front and rear so I can buzz one side of the car up and swap wheels back to front at midway lunch halts too.

I'll let you know how easy it is to drop lol. My pain can be your gain 😂

I did the cambelt and auxiliary belt on mine last year, wasn't bad at all. Took less time than changing all the gearbox, transfer box, haldex and rear diff fluids lol.

Sailed through MOT today, not even a minor. Guy actually commented on how clean it was underneath for it's age.

Made the blood and sweat getting it cleaned up and undersealed all worth it!

Next on the list is to do the injectors seals, glow plugs and swirl flap delete just getting parts gathered up atm.

Small update, Oil service done today. It's covered a massive 3500 miles in the last year lol.

Anyone who owns one and services it themselves will know it's a pig of a job due to the oil filter location so I'd been putting it off as much as possible. (27mm flexhead ratchet spanner makes it alot easier.)

1000021406.jpg

Bought myself I new jug which makes filling the oil so much easier. Also managed to drop it removing it from the box hence the super glue and tape around the spout 😐.

I had bought a set of modular steel wheels for it but didn't like the look of them and sent them back.

Managed to get a set of 18" Evoque alloys of Marketplace for £100 and currently in the process of painting these satin black. Then will be sticking some AT's tyres on them.

Screenshot_20240308-001455.png

Still have glow plugs to fit and a Evoque intake manifold as it doesn't have swirl flaps but struggling to find time to get both done
