Sorry for the lack of updates recently. I have been slowly chipping away at various bits which didn't seem worthy of an update and I've almost reached a point where I need an actual bodywork guy to step in and help. Doing this by yourself is no easy task but it is moving forward and I have set a date with a time served bodywork guy I used to work with. Hoping to get the back end reassembled in a few weeks time.

I started stripping the paint in the engine bay a few weeks ago using paint stripper to loosen it then a selection of wire wheels to remove it. I actually found poly strip wheels much better in the end. Got a little more than half the bay stripped last night and today I welded a small patch on the front cross member and got the whole lot primed.

Ran out of primer but I'll pick some more up tomorrow and hopefully have the whole bay finished this weekend ๐Ÿ˜

This afternoon's antics include getting stuck into what's left of the driver's side engine bay getting into all the nooks and crannies with the wire wheel before it gets a coat of the Bonda primer ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป Quite awkward that I can't remove that wiring loom but I'll persist as it is. Future rust isn't an option so everything's going back to bare metal on this and fully sealing it from the elements. I've also placed an order from Mitsubishi in Japan for a full set of rubber grommets for all around the car. Still amazes me I can get some of this stuff after 30 years and very thankful that I can ๐Ÿ˜ It's the little details like this that really make a build in my opinion.

Big day for the Evo restoration today as the back end was put back together again ๐Ÿ˜ This was a two man job so I draughted in a former work colleague and bodyworker Gary (no not me) for his expertise. Coming along really well, very pleased to see it actually looking like a car again! Another day or twos work and it should be ready to go onto the spit ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป Special thanks to Gary for coming over.

Rear quarter panel treated with Bilt Hamber Hydrate-80, a low viscosity rust converter that penetrates areas not possible to reach with a grinder or sander. It also acts as a barrier to help prevent rust and self etches the surface to allow further coatings to be applied. Once dry it was then treated with two coats of Bonda Zinc Primer. As iv probably said before, this is a resin based and non-porous so moisture cannot attack the inside of the arch and rust it out from the inside and ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป I'll be painting this Scotia White once the paint arrives.

Amazing work on this, some effort going in to it (y)

Thanks ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป Feedback is much appreciated โ˜บ๏ธ I'm just doing everything I can to ensure the longevity of this car. Better to spend the time at this stage doing it right than having to redo it all in a few years time because you skimped out or took a shortcut. Due to the fact many of these panels are no longer available I feel like I only have one chance at this so I'd better get it right.

I had planned on getting stuck into the sills on Tuesday evening but my body said no lol I was shattered after a few days graft and was doing lots of other work around the house. Will likely get started on that either this evening or tomorrow afternoon. Yesterday I was out getting some supplies and dropped my anti-roll bars off at the powder coaters. I should've taken some before pics but forgot. The chosen colour is RAL 5022 Night Blue which is a nice dark blue and should compliment the brake calipers. They should be ready next week.

Doing my least favourite chore this afternoon, stripping 30 year old under seal off the back arches ๐Ÿคฎ No nasty surprises to be found here thankfully ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป Looking forward to getting them nice and shiny then lashing the Bonda onto them. More pics to follow when I get it finished.

Also after almost 4 months my SuperPro power steering bushes finally arrived!! I was almost for cancelling the order it was taking that long but to my surprise they were waiting for me when I got home today ๐Ÿ˜ Apparently there was a factory move in Australia and some of the machines were down for a while causing a huge backlog of orders. The Hardrace bushes I bought previously didn't fit and were returned.
