im really into rallying and want a car to modify like a rally car when im 18, by modify it like a rally car i mean to put a fully wrc kit, sparco alacantra bucket seats, full roll cage, light smoke window tints, white alloy wheels, full system exhaust and a superchip etc. The car that would be absoulty perfect for this would be a black or white focus 1.4/1.6 zetec. then as i get older and my insurance drops i could put the 1.8 zetec in it and then really modify the engine. my main problem is insurance! i want to know if anyone knows how much do they think a 1.6 r 1.4 zetec focus would cost to insure for an 18 year old? i keep trying to get online quotes but my computer keeps freezing 8o| ! if anyone could even tell me another ford car that i could use i would be very greatfull. im really going for this idea and have saved £500 since the new year.

Try ringing some insurance firms?? No point in asking people what it will cost you as no-one can give you an accurate idea apart from the insurance firm themselves - it's different for everyone.

Moved to legal section too.

the 1.4 engine is too small in the Focus body, slow and thirsty due to the weight, the 1.6 is similar only a little quicker, personally I wouldnt look below a 1.8. They go ok, not fast but nippy enough and they are only group 6 insurance (iirc the 1.6 is group 5) I had one for 4 years from new & loved it, good handling, easy run & never let me down - oh & never embarrassed itself around Nutts Corner race track ;)

To be fair mate hes 18. Most people drive 1.0/1.2L cars at 18. The 1.6 Focus is quick enough, very willing to rev, and certainly quicker than alot of counterpart 1.6's.

Such a helpful answer there:relieved:

In my opinion all that needs is a set of RS 2000 skirts. The escort is a good base as you have quite a few engines that will drop into it - 1.8 zetec 105bhp, 1.8 zetec 130bhp, I4 150 bhp. You can also go to 2.0L zetec conversion with little hassle, which opens the door to 2.0L zetec turbos.....

For a start cossie arches should only be on a cossie lol. There are loads of Fords you can get that will handle like a deamon with a few £££ spent. EG Ka fair enough slow, but handles/stops ok - an ideal first car.

Comming from someone that drives a corsa ROTFL, i love this forum.

As for the insurance etc, I would get a cheaper car to keep you going mate. Then you could go for the focus later on. Bare in mind by that stage you may be looking for something else... No point in tying yourself to something.

MK6 Fiesta looks very well rally style, even lowered n rally slag rims is enough and cheaper to insure than focus!

I'm 18 and insured on a 1.8 focus in my own name. Cheapest quote I got was £3200. Insurance sucks :sob:

Well it certainly has possibilities that way... the WRC kit can be bought now too, it transforms the car totally! For me I havent decided on what to do to the car, if I will bother to do anything. Though multispokes really do add to the Mk6... Decisions Decisions!

Also Silver Clio why get a 1.4/1.6 in a focus when you could get one in a Fez? Potential wise its got it too, with transplants and styling - whatever suits...

Thats something that would bias me, short of getting a top end focus first of all.
