For the simple fact that, at least this has got alot of you debating the subject, this move has already been worthwhile.
If a Volvo such as the one in the video above were to be presented for scrutiny, ofcourse it would be allowed to enter. Unfortunately I don't believe that there are any Volvos within these shores that CAN perform like that, but I urge someone to prove me wrong. A free entry awaits the person with such a car!
As sed by rms_clk,
it wouldn't really be feasible to insist that all track cars have a current mot cert as some of the most extreme machines are all out track/ race/ drift machines. But, Mr Clk, if you'd actually been to a recent SWRC event you'd see that it is NOT a track day at all. The Tarmac Sprints, to the untrained eye may seem similar, but that is where the similarities end. These are motor sport events and DRIFTNI has become the main focal part.
The fact is, standards are rising and rough old cars (no matter the badge) are no longer acceptable. To ensure of this, scrutineering will now be done in two stages:
-The first, based upon appearance, being before cars are even taken off the trailer (junkers refused at this stage!)
-and the second, more detailed stage, is before the cars join the queue for the track.
I emphatically welcome all of your opinions (even the seemingly negative ones) as it best enables us to tackle the issues that matter to you. As trends in car standards change, so too might the 'No Volvos' rule, but this is the point from which all such changes begin. I also welcome all of you to judge by our performance this Saturday, the 11th March, after you have enjoyed the display from the many Mk2 Escorts, TIDY Carltons and Senators, Cossies and Mantas, to name but a few.
I'll be right here to answer your grievances.
Cheers,
Wayne
