do they check the power of the bulbs or just direction?

my full beams are a smidge over 55w

They don't check power to my knowledge - just where their direction / alignment.

Im guessing this as last time i took the crx through - i thought he asked for sidelights - which are really really dim, but he had actually meant dipped beam and he passed my alignment etc using only my sidelights - quite shocking really.

yea angle/deflection is what they test.

Its just alignment they check for.

I had a bulb in crooked in one of the holders and they ****ers wouldnt let me fix it there at the centre thus failing me.

A standard HB3/9005 full beam is 65W anyway.

Must admit, I thought they checked the brightness. I took out the 100W bulbs from the 205's spots last year for the test.

Yea it is the direction/alignment that they test

They check for the lower limit of beam strength, but not the upper.
