I have bought a Porsche 911 Turbo brake conversion kit for my MK5 GTI, I have fitted them onto the car but there was excessive travel on the pedal so I've removed them and put the standard ones back on for now.Can anyone please tell me what larger master cylinder i need to fit to stop this from happening. thanks in advance for any help that is offered.

They might be on upside down. The bleed nipples have to be at the top from memory. I had the same problem with a BMW Mini Cooper S.

This, had a garage fit a set of BMW Performance brakes to my 130i and they couldn't get a pedal as they were upside down!

I hope you never used them again after that! :p

Nope, certainly did not. Ran 3 litres of fluid though them then rang me to say there was something wrong with them and to come pick the car up! Had to nurse the car from a Ventry Street to Autotechnic. Got a call from Darren to say they put the calipers on the right way up and pedal was good.

Please don't take this the wrong way.

Did you bleed the system fully, starting at the caliper furthest from the master cylinder?

I assume your standard setup is working fine?

no idea about those calipers in particular but some have two nipples per caliper, one for inner and one for outer pistons, but you would hardly have missed a nipple i wouldnt have thought :p

These do have 2 nipples per calliper and they were both bled on both callipers

You're likely quite right in what your saying. The larger surface area of the new Pistons will mean they require more fluid to move them the same distance. And hence as you say, the further you have to push the pedal. It's quite a common practice when changing brakes to upgrade the master cylinder to one with a larger bore. As I'm sure you know, rather than it being a bleeding issue. As for what part you need... I'm afraid I can't help.

I don't know exactly what M/C you'll need but I'd start looking at similar chassis cars with bigger brakes. Most likely TTS or RS as they will have big brakes.

What part number is those calipers?? Because they just look like 312mm discs, I fitted a set of porsche brembos to a octy VRs, with absolutely no issue but they I think they were the boxster/996/cayman brakes which have a smaller piston.
If yours are definitely from a turbo then your only option is a new master cylinder.

Are those definitely 911 turbo?

If you bought 17z calipers, they're the larger ones and need more parts. The 18z have the smaller pistons and bolt straight on.

The number needs checked on them. No point in us all guessing what might be wrong. If they're 17z they're not a straight bolt on upgrade.

Nope haven't and don't need to. Pistons sizes are compatible with the Golfs existing setup. If I went any bigger at the rear then yeah I'd need a TTRS master.

They look like the popular NQSBBK setup a lot of boys run. You shouldn't need to upgrade the master cylinder.

Calling @kyle.j1 for assistance.

I spoke to a company in Cheshire today that specialise in big brake upgrades for VW's, The MKV master cylinder is big enough, the callipers need bleeding then you have to bleed the master cylinder and this brings the peddle back.I shall let you know the results at the weekend, Thank you all for your advice
