Good progress last night.

Engine wired and in. Finally…
Behind the front wings now resembles a car.

Got the taste for it back now so full steam
Ahead. Back out tonight to tighten and torque everything up and keep pushing on.

Also had this wagon in the driveway.

Thanks bud. 👌
Feels like it’s close now to at least turning it over. Once that happens and I’m happy with all the electrics etc then the push will be on to build up the interior.

Two amazing cars there! Never knew there was such a thing as a Celsior, think I need one now 😅 😍
Yea me neither till he told me he’d a car coming from Japan. It’s the jap version of the LS400. He imported it and then put his own turn on it. Photos don’t do justice but the attention to detail in it is just fantastic.

Just rung a bolt putting the abs sensor bracket onto the underside of the top wishbone, absolute poison!!

Off,. Drilled,. Tapped, and now going at it again,. This is the stuff that tests you lol.

Wee bit more done.

Painted the prop silver,.. big mistake. It just looked crap so had to rub it down again and go satin black.

Think it looks much better now and the zinc bolts and “U” hooks make it nice when it’s in.

Also got the servo in and some of the new bits like the master cylinders/reservoirs.

The wiring is now mostly done and everything done in the bay and through the firewall to the ecu. Got the fuel rail in too and connected to the fuel lines and injectors in. Just have to put the new rocker cover on to make it look that bit nicer.

Made a list and getting through some of it tonight.

Going to do the shifter rebuild now.

Then hopefully get the headlights in and a lot of the footery brackets/covers/earths etc in.

Next up is the final Amayama order from Japan which is proving painful. So many clips and grommets and stuff, for windows, carpets etc and then start on the interior.

Feel like were getting there though. 👌👍

Yea I know, I’ll have to get a load of good photos done of it when it’s completely finished before it gets weathered looking, but it’ll definitely be driven, just cleaned and wiped down on the lift after washing each day.

The postage from Japan is getting ridiculous now but I suppose it is weight/size driven. It just so happens that this last one has a few bulky things like the bulkhead insulator padding and the roof surround bracket so nothing you can do really.

I have a refurbed oem wrinkle red one to go on but before I do I want to drill the rivets out of the baffle plate and clean up in behind it incase theses any sediment or anything lurking that could cause heartbreak later on.

Lol, Not to get ahead of myself, as I’ve a bit to go, but I sat at the weekend and thought I’d definitely do this again.

The actual project side of it and visualising the end product is really enjoyable. I’ve learned so much about how a car actually works that I think it could also be done much faster now that I’ve “almost” done it once and kids are getting to a more manageable age.

Just have nothing screaming at me for an idea of what would be a good option next. Same as the Honda, buy something that is full/complete/running and then refresh everything.

Not that many 'normal people' would share that opinion! Fair play to you!!!
I know a few that vow to only ever buy a restored car and not go at it again themselves lol. Be it cost, issues, decision making or simply time invested!

Time flies by and with young kids and work flat I find it hard to get near the car.

Got the manifold and heat shields on last night.

Then started into the rocker.

I’ve come this far and wanted to see in behind the baffle. Went out to the aul fellas to use his tools. Drilled all the rivets and got the baffle off too have a look.

The baffle is bonded on with Honda bond from factory and should be liquid tight but you never know. It had quite a bit of grit in it which is the last thing I need near a crank and bearings. Clean it up and tap the holes and put some new bolts in or cap screws.

Moving on to the radiator now tonight. Remove the fans clean up and mount them on the new radiator.
One bolt proving very stubborn so had to drill it out. Think they have floating washers so wanted to reuse these on the new rad.

Get this done and then have to finalise the amayama order. It’s pretty chunky but there are so many clips and stuff that I still need to go round the car and see what I need so not looking forward to that.

No rush on this I guess though, you have all winter to work on it?

Do you have something like a rocket socket set? I find these will remove the majority of stubborn bolts once a regular socket fails.

Yea just like the last 3 years…, I’ve the winter to sort it lol. This project has taken me years, but I’m grand with that. Mates of mine ask how do you have the patience for it,.. I don’t,.. it’s dictated to me,. But when it’s finally done I’ll hopefully be happy with the end result.

I do have the rocket set and luckily I’m at the stage where that’s one of the last bolts that needs unwound, their now all going back in and are copper greased to within an inch of their life lol. 👌👍

One bolt at a time and you'll get there.

When it's done you'll be wondering what to spend all your time on, lol. Or your money 😅

But more progress so to speak.

Radiator in, oil in, fuel in,

And then turned the key.

So we have power and it did crank which is good.

No we have a new problem.

The fuel pump won’t prime.

There is a Hamilton palmer alarm/immobiliser fitted to these cars at Honda uk but not from factory to conform to insurance requirements.

Prior to starting this journey a few years ago I removed the immobiliser/alarm from under the seat and my mechanic wired the fuel pump on into the main loom. This was as I was blasting the shell and it needed to come out.

The more reading I do I understand that the ecu needs a signal from the immobiliser to send power to the fuel pump. My mechanic is coming back down to have another look this week at it. Worst case scenario I have to have it wired back in or get an AEM which does away with the immobiliser.

I’ve seen some American videos where they just break off/unsolder the chip in ECU for the immobiliser but I don’t really want to do that.

But if a damp squib as I wanted to hear her turning over but I suppose power is something. All the dash controls seem to be working like heaters and all the lights working too.

Just have to solve this to get it firing.

A few chats with Aaron Oliver and we were able to find out what the issue was and make sure that the immobiliser was bypassed.

After this, car fired first hit of the start button today. Ear to ear grin to say the least. A long time coming!
