The annual charity car run takes place on Friday 4 August, organised by, and leaving from, Carrowdore Presbyterian Church.

Returning for its sixth year, this car run is going stronger than ever, attracting car folk from Ballymena to Ballynahinch, and from Ballyclare to Ballywalter.

A collection of vehicles spanning near to 100 years on show allows for an eclectic mix that offers something for the tastes of absolutely everyone.

Vintage, classic and cars of special interest are to congregate in the car park on the church grounds in Carrowdore from 18:00 with the cavalcade departing at 19:00 sharp for a coast-to-coast tour of the fabulous Ards Peninsula.

Taking in the beauty of the wonderful landscape and villages along the way, the route this year is as follows; Carrowdore village, Mountstewart Rd, Portaferry Rd, Greyabbey, Portaferry Rd, Kircubbin, Rubane Rd, Cloughey, Portavogie, Warnock’s Rd, Shore Rd, Ballyhalbert, and Ballywalter with a finish point at Tom Turkington’s yard on the Whitechurch road.

We appeal to the public to come out and support our drive as they meander around the peninsula.

As ever, our small organising committee have chosen a worthwhile charity – Childhood Tumour Trust – as a young relative of a church member suffers this disease.

The Trust supports the research, medical and pastoral care of sufferers from Neurofibromatosis Type 1 (NF1), affecting some 25,000 children and young people in the UK. NF1 is a genetic neurological disorder that can affect the brain, spinal cord, nerves, and skin. Complications include, tumours growing on the nerves or both sides of the skin, bone deformities, blindness, cancer, and social skills.

As a registered charity aiming to increase awareness and help to victims of this disease, if you would like to donate then please speak to one of us on Friday 4 August.
