Engine transplants

Just out of curiosity who has ever done one...and put what into what? From the smallest of swaps to the clinically insane! It seems to me that the majority of engine transplants always seem to be Vauxhalls with the obligatory red top into a Nova/Corsa! Can we keep this to personal experiences rather than "some bloke did this"...whether youve helped someone else do it or youve done your own car or had someone else do it for you! Pics would be nice too

Elise transplants:

Honda K20a and Audi 1.8T to replace 1.8 K series.

Fairly common (and expensive).

Some of the rover coupe chaps would transplant B16As into the rovers was an easy swap apparantly.

Mi16s into 205s

I had a Calibra Turbo C20LET engine put in a 1.4 mk3 Astra Estate. Also swapped over the front strut assembly, power steering, and a cavalier rear axle so I could run Calibra turbo rims. Theres a few pics in my Garage.

I also had a 5.7V8 to put into my old 924, but that particular project is being changed to a 1.8T 20v if I can get one at sensible money.

I would like to put the Mi16/D6C that's out of the BX into something small, like an AX.

I put a 1800cc K-jet MK1 Golf GTI engine into a 1300cc Carbed Mk1 Golf Driver.

Alot of stuff had to be changed including fuel tank, wiring loom and welded engine mount.

If I was to do it again I would just have bike carbed a non-injection 1800....

I stick with Rovers doing:

Rover metro/100 -> 1.8 vvc
Rover 200/25/zr -> 2.0 turbo or fully forged 2.1 turbo engines


On a side note, my RGV250 motorbike has an RG500 engine.

Myself and Eamon replaced a 1.2 16v engine in a 2001 Corsa.

I put a 1300sr in a 1.0 Nova, then wrecked the head and fitted a 1600. All easy swaps, carb engines, just had to swap tank and some other wee bits. A few trees put an end to that.

My current Nova.. came as a shell with a 1600 (the one I put in the above Nova)... came with burnt wiring loom etc so swapped everything and fitted a 1200 to keep insurance etc hunky dorey.

Thinking of building a new engine over the summer, have all the parts.... 1300 crank and rods in a 1200 block (gives high comp 1400), 1200 head, 1600 cam and twin choke carb

helped with a renault 5 gt turbo engine into my cousins first r5 gtx, then an xr3i engine into my fiesta.

also helped a fella with a rover v8 into his sd1

If you want to see lots of engine transplants! try out the 16v mini club but there all minis using honda v-taaakks, vauxhall's, rover's, v8's, bikes, v6 alfas and the likes!

Starting into another interesting conversion in a weeks time hopefully, not gonna let on what it is yet tho lol

i put a 1.1 renault 5 campus engine into a r5 turbo shell, came across issues with the fuel systems not connecting up and was going to cost too much money to get it done properly, so gave up and the car rot away to nothing, was such a waste and one of my biggest regrets in life

Also helped put a gti engine into a mk1 golf which was immense fun, and actually fairly easy al beit the moving of the engine mount etc but then we had every part of the old gti so fuel tanks etc were all there anyways..

old type 911 turbo engine into a beetle, done this with a fella in ballyclare for someone from the south, paid for it and told us to keep the 911 turbo shell, so we did, a few months went by, and got given an old escort 1.6, with a rotten shell, and transplanted it into the 911, bit of space framing, etc etc required to do it, and under mounts were made, the same fella who gave us the 911, then bought it back off us after we had escort engine running in it, kind of a weird one really, but was brilliant fun
