I have had an EP3, 306 Rallye, 106 GTI and Cooper S.. 106 is the most fun and best handling, EP3 is the nicest to drive and fastest.

I thought the Cooper S was a bit numb.. even with the 170hp pulley/remap and H&Rs. It was my wife's car and I would not have really felt like a man owning it!

My phase 1 172 was one of the most fun cars I have ever owned.

An impreza would be fun in budget too especially as they feel much faster than they are.

An early boxster if you could find one would be an awful lot of car for the £ too

You’re actually quite spoilt for choice Clio 200 And Mazda 3mps are in budget if you can haggle a bit as well. Mainland looks your best bet.
