Hi there!

I’m new around here, so I’ll start off with a bit of a story.
Moved to the ROI in 2017 and had been living there for the past 3 years.
Now, for various reasons I hadn’t been able to drive something fun and exotic (except for a Swift Sport.. hardly exotic tho).
So as a big car enthusiast (I used to drive everything, from an SLS AMG to various M3s, Euro Rs, EE9s, etc) I always envied the lads “up north” who seemed to have it all.
Importing something from the UK or Japan was out of the question, thanks to VRT and insurance nightmares.
Spent too many days and nights trying to figure out ways that would allow me to drive something nice, without being charged an arm and a leg for the privilege.

Then Corona hit, which actually came as a somewhat of a blessing, as it was all working from home from then on.
“Great” I thought! With the housing situation in the Republic being just as bad as the car situation, and me being the impulsive fecker that I am, I just took the plunge and moved the family to N.I.
Everything went smooth, and the next 3 weeks were almost entirely spent on Autotrader, Gumtree, Ebay and Pistonheads.
I felt like a child in a candy store. There was just Too. Much. Choice!
Evos. Civics. M4s. RS4s. AMGs.

Then this beauty popped up:

08 FD2 Type R. Freshly imported from Japan. Full service history.

Always had a soft spot for Hondas, especially in CW.
Paid a deposit, and a week later I was sitting on a plane to Newcastle. That was last Thursday.

Looked even better on collection day:

3 1/2 hours drive to get on the Ferry in Cairnryan, a very relaxed crossing, and another 30 minutes to get home made for a fun road trip.

Perfect view from the living room window:

Found the RS next to it when I came back

Not many plans for it, as I like the OE look. Things on the to do list are a wheel refurb, fix the driver’s seat bolster, do a big service with timing chain and gearbox oil, fit a set of new AD08RS tyres, and get it polished and ceracoated.
Might fit a Spoon exhaust and a Mugen splitter.

If anybody has any recommendations for a Honda specialist, and a company that’ll do the seat bolster and steering wheel trim in Belfast, please let me know.

That’s me for now. Feel free to say hi when you see me around!

I’ve always liked these, perfect family car for a Jap enthusiast IMO. Look forward to seeing updates.

Very nice, FD2s are great going cars. They just seem a notch above anything found this side of the globe. As for a specialist, I've taken my Honda's to AI Autosport in Carrick. He's an Evo guy but he's had plenty of Hondas including an FD2 at one point so he knows his way around them.

Very Nice, I've always loved these. If I could afford it I'd have one as my daily.

Thought I’d update this thread!
I’ve severe car OCD so I’ve mostly done mechanical work on the FD. Had plenty of free time last year so did all the jobs on my driveway:

- Timing chain, guides and oil chain swapped
- New VTC actuator fitted
- Valves adjusted
- Engine mounts replaced with Hardrace bits
- Replaced every single steering part at the front; ball joints, rods, drop links, bushes, etc
- Fitted subframe collars

- Had to fit a new windscreen as the old one was cracked. Was an absolute ordeal to deal with Autoglass who kept telling me that they couldn’t get a windscreen with tinted top strip. Took 6 months of back and forth and talking to importers, Honda Japan, etc until I agreed to take one without the strip. Fitter shows up on the day and fits a windscreen with tinted strip. Absolute joke. But at least I got the correct glass.

Also fitted the first mod. Always wanted to get a Spoon exhaust but didn’t feel like paying £485 for a new one. After a year of browsing eBay, FB, gumtree, etc. this finally popped up:

Absolute bargain at £120
Arrived last Wednesday. Gave it a wee polish and it looked almost like new:

Next on the list are a new clutch, a rear axle refresh, Tein suspension, Mugen lip spoiler, and a new driver’s seat pad.

Brilliant, looks like a great one

Enjoy, and have fun!

P.S.
Don't forget to get it undersealed properly with it being straight in from Japan. Salt season coming up.

Just as I pumped 800 quid into the car this month to sort a few niggly bits like swapping the A/C clutch, reconditioning the power steering pump, and changing the rear engine mount, some idiot pulled out of a junction and made me swerve into the f*cking curb at nearly 60mph.

F*cking lucky too as they were practically parallel to my car.
Then they went on to deny all liability.
Luckily I got CCTV footage from the place across the road to prove that they pulled out just as I approached the junction.
Girl from the insurance company had a good laugh at the other driver's statement.

Gutted and fuming in equal measures.
Now I have to wait on the insurance to sort things out.

Will insurance get involved if there was no impact with the other car itself?
