We are looking for 12 cars for the first race in March 2012, so far we have 7 No. Make no mistake, this will be the cheapest racing you will get. If this gets off the ground running there could be 20+ cars on the grid by the end of the season.
These will be real racing cars. Only the engines will be standard.
The emphasis will be on low cost and FUN FUN FUN.
Cheaters will be turfed out. There are plenty of other classes at Kirkistown for people to spend lots of money on.

Just find a suitable Fiesta and prepare it to suit.

A meeting is being organised around the end of the month for all you potentials. Find all details on this thread.

Have you got a set of regs to see what exactly is involved?

These are the '96 - '02 cars. There are plenty about, I have ended up with three of the things. As far as the Regs go, we need to wait until there is a meeting and everyone can discuss things, but generally the cars will be standard to keep costs down.
The way I see it is this, every car will need to have the required safety equipment, usually, cage, seat, harness, fire extinguisher and battery cut out. After that anything that can be done to the car for £100 or less is ok as long as it is up front. eg; Perspex windows (about £66 off ebay) plus a nights work of course. Move the battery to inside the car - £15 for a battery box plus a few hours work. Each of these type of things will make very little difference to the cars times, but all together they should add up to a few 10ths. Of course it is all futile if a gearchange is missed or sumsuch. :grinning: There will be a minimum weight so no point in spending fortunes on weight saving. The cars came with 13in/14in/ and 15in wheels although my three cars are all on 14in wheels. However, it has been stated that any Ford original wheel is acceptable, and as the cheapest suitable tyre appears to be the TOYO R888 and it is available in 185/60/13 then we intend going for those. There is a Toyo in 14in but it is a slightly higher profile than the original therefore 5th gear would become redundant. The exhaust system will be the usual. Original manifold must be retained and then it is free (subject to Kirkistown noise restraints) Front and rear camber and castor will have to be within the Ford Parameters. No modifying of the engine at all. None. All ECUs will be swopped over if necessary, ie; the first 6 cars will swop with the next 6 and so on. Plus we will retain the right to ban any car we think is too fast in a straight line.

These are not hard and fast rules yet, it is just to give some idea about what is involved. Plus, if anyone thinks they can give a few 'special tweeks' to their car will find that cheaters are not welcomed, anyone wanting to bend the rules will have a fight on their hands. Every person involved is aware that this type of racing attracts cheaters therefore, please be aware that you will be assumed guilty until proven otherwise.

How are you going to tell if someone has a good healthy engine and someone has a engine about to **** itself? Are u still going to kick that person out with the good engine if u think he has mods?

We will look for reasons why the car is faster down the straight. It is not hard to tell if 6 cars are on the straight and one of them is faster than the rest. BTW quite often engines are at their best just before they **** themselves.:grinning: Just ask the Formula Ford men.

Remember, give me a shout if you think you are going to need cages.

If you start swapping ECU between cars none of them will start. Also IIRC the brakes on the later models will not fit 13" rims, as they are bigger and vented

sounds like it could be a good series! is it just going to be kirkistown? or will other tracks be used?
when is it likely to be, saturday, sunday or mid week?

thats class, would love to do that purely for the banter of being on the circuit under the term racing and it being cheap as chips.

Do not kid yourself, cheap as chips it is not, and it always costs more than you think, however, those who genuinely are going to do it know that already.
And it will be as cheap as possible.

That is great info Pumesta, exactly what we need. Brake wise I think all the Mk4 cars have solid discs and can fit 13in wheels. All mine can anyway. :grinning: But as for ECU info we are a bit scant on that front. Do you know what needs done to make them 'swoppable'?
We also need to do away with the steering lock and the airbag!

MK5's have 240mm vented discs and larger rear drums. The ECU controls the PATS so if you swap the ECU about you would need to swap the transponder ring and the ignition barrel around too. Also even if you did swap them round the cars would run like poo, because the despite the engines being identical there are always slight fuelling and airflow differences between them. Until the ECU sorts it's self out the car will run a bit crap.

I am wondering here, if the transponder ring and ignition barrel were fitted in a box, and the box and ECU became swoppable, how many laps at full throttle would be needed to let the ECU sort itself?

We are not really worried about smooth running at half throttle. The only issues will be,.. starting, and full throttle power.
