Astra J 1.7 clutch problems

Hi all, just wondering if anyone can help with a clutch issue on a 1.7 cdti astra j. The car has about 75k miles on it and sometimes on startup the clutch pedal sticks fully depressed and stays there until you lift it up. This happens infrequently, but mostly when the car is being started hot.

The weird thing is, when this occurs, the engine will not start and instead violently shakes as if it is being started in gear. This happens even when the car is in neutral and the clutch itself doesn't slip and feels fine except when this occurs.

After a bit of faffing about with the pedal the car will start and drive as if nothing is wrong.

Any help appreciated!

Yeah as bizarre as it sounds this was being caused by an old battery. Voltage on battery was showing fine but battery was still too weak. As an aside, the start stop system wouldn't work either.

I was able to reproduce the problem by intentionally running the battery down and trying to start the vehicle. Then recharging the battery and the car would start again normally.

Never had another issue when I replaced the battery and start stop started functioning again aswell.
