Ridiculous question maybe to some but why can some mechanics stamp and others cant?
CheersHave to be vat registered to stamp the book.
This is a bit of a myth. Worked in VW for 8 years and if a car is in warranty it's in warranty. Never once had VW request to see proof of independent servicing or receipts to honor a warranty claim either on a new or used car warranty. The parts and labour warranty needs a receipt of purchase from VW parts.you must be vat registered and use genuine parts to keep your warranty intact. all genuine parts used should have their part numbers listed on any receipt received.
Agree, alot of 3rd party warranties supplied with used cars, as opposed to manufacturers warranty, will only give the go ahead for repairs with VAT registered garage. We have an RAC used car warranty on one of our cars and needed bit of work. The warranty co were 100%, just took it to local vat registered garage and they sorted.we had a Vauxhall corsa with an engine problem and the vauxhall dealer required proof of parts used to service it before it covered the warranty. and an independent warranty on a second-hand car sold by Charles Hurst required us to be vat registered before giving the go-ahead to replace a faulty injector. both these cars were in the last 6 weeks to so in our experience its not a myth.

I service my cars myself and just have a folder full of receipts for everything. I find its a lot easier to prove work being done if you have proof the items were bought and a date on the receipts although a few garages may argue that as its not a stamped booked.
However when I sold my 535d about 6 years ago it had been serviced by me and the book was filled in by myself.
It soon was on gumtree with a 40k haircut and a full BMW service history with a new fully stamped book from BMW dealers in England.
After looking on ebay you can buy pre-stamped books so seeing a car with a full service history with only a book means nothing to me now.
With the sale in eurocarparts now would you buy the stuff yourself or are mechanics funny about that?
be careful what you buy of euro carparts, some of it is not oem and is pure keek.
