Economy mapping?

Is it possible to map a 1.9 TDI toledo ('99 ALH Engine and std VNT15 turbo) to be a bit more frugal? Or will a power map generally improve economy?

Incar computer shows 53mpg over 500miles/50L, but this works out at 45 Mpg, driving progessively and smoothly.

Ive heard of lots of people with remapped golfs/octavias (same setup) and getting a genuine 55mpg - 600miles/50L

you'd be very unlucky not to see a substantial increase on economy on one of these older tdi's by increasing the power..this year of model needs chipped
