So Audi Belfast want over £400 for a combined oil and inspection service which is, frankly, ridiculous. Oil service on my previous BMW was £149 from the dealer.

Is there a VAT registered specialist who would use genuine parts around the Belfast area that would provide amore realistic quotation?

Audi charged me £171 to tell me my car didn’t need anything 😩 The whole “inspection” thing is a swindle. I know it didn’t need anything! They knew too as they had a record of all the previous services and additional service items. I thought it included an oil change but had to pay extra. What they didn’t pick up on was a coolant leak.

This is such an age old debate, and it depends on your take on these things, but purely from a resale perspective most buyers of an S4 will want to see it serviced at the main dealer.

I personally think a good Indi will look after it better, but sadly the market doesn't agree and that will hurt the value of the car and ease of resale when the time comes to sell/trade your S4. If that isn't important to you though, then Indi all the way.

Cheers guys. Audi's labour rate would appear to be £155 per hour :dizzy:. The inspection appears to be mandatory to maintain the service record so will likely have to take the hit for that one.

From a potential future goodwill perspective I’d go with Audi. Try and ask them for a bit of discount, Richard Armstrong the service manager is usually fairly agreeable and wants custom in over the door.

Fair point and one I've considered. As for discount, both Belfast and Portadown have offered 10% off but will email Belfast Service Centre and see how much they'll quote. Audi have a price match promise so will try and see if I can push for a bit more.

Thanks again all for the repsonses, much appreciated (y)

They'll probably price match to get the business, then they'll have a swarm of sheep who will come through the door and pay what they ask no questions so they probably make a decent amount from those types.

Like @Woodcutter I'd rather a specialist history as opposed to dealer

Yup, £150 per hour. I kept the inspections up as I wanted to maintain the history on the S3 as @Woodcutter says people want to see it when they’re buying. I also have a warranty with Agnews so kept the servicing with Audi.

How often is an inspection actually required? Is there literally a check box for it in the record?

Might be worth asking what it would be if you supplied the oil and filter.

I cannot understand how you’re expected to pay £400 for what is essentially an interim service. I had a look at the fixed price servicing for an SQ5 there (cars under 3 aren’t eligible for fixed price) and it was only £205 for an interim and £395 for a major.

I was quoted slightly more than that for first service and inspection on a 1.4TFSI B9 A4 and with it being a lease car I had no option but to use main dealer as they what's stated in the paperwork.

I was genuinely contemplating a boat to Scotland as it would have worked out cheaper. I made Audi UK aware and stated that with there being no competition in NI, I felt Agnews were taking advantage. They spoke to Service Manager on my behalf and I think they knocked 25% off. Still expensive but helped with the pain a little.

I'd be interested to know cost of main dealer maintenance against depreciation. My 535d had about 12 grands worth of receipts from a main dealer over 10 years, then the engine failed due to lack of oil changes. I find it insane they can even charge that amount of money for so little in return, it's a complete take on. People seem to have this belief that when they take it to the main dealer they are getting a highly trained tech, when usually it's far from it.

Everyone, that's the thing.

Like if a car as fresh as above isn't main dealer serviced, any smaller dealer who would be trading it in would masisvely stick the arm in knowing it's not got main dealer service history, even though it'd likely be treated better at an independant. Then potential buyers who aren't car savy will just see "not Audi" in the history and assume shadey back street garage, regardless if they'r ethe best in the country.

Annoying, but that's the way of it.

Has to be a point over paying for services outways the loss in value. I’m just not a fan of main dealers, but I’m probably in the minority

I agree, I would much rather see a specialist service history, or even receipts and photos by an enthusiast to prove that servicing and maintenance has been carried out.

Get a written quote from Walsh Motors or Belfast Service Centre for the service and inspection, then go to Audi Belfast and tell them you want the price matched.
Audi have to price match any of the Audi VAT reg. specialists within I think it's a 14 mile radius of the dealership !!! They don't tell you this and may try to put up a fight but they have to match the price.

You keep a full Audi service history at alot lower cost.

Cheers

I was in the same situation as yourself regarding the lease. From memory the finally price was £489 which included first service, pollen filter and a puncture repair, nearly dropped on the spot. After asking for discount they dropped it to £429. Still ridiculous but some discount is better than none. My parents had their Q5 in for its first service 3 days later, £389 no discount available so theres no harm in asking.

Surely a new Audi is losing close to £400 around month in depreciation? A service at £400 is just another cost associated with having a new car that has to be taken into account?
