Land Rover specialist/mechanic needed

Just wondering if anyone knows a good land rover mechanic around the Belfast area preferably.

Our child minders 2016 3.0 TDV6 Discovery has wrecked the engine and she’s been told it will cost £10,500 from Land Rover for a new engine! I’m just trying to see if there’s a cheaper option for her. There’s Bound to be someone who will fit a 2nd hand engine for her for a lot less.

Any help would be much appreciated as she’s panicking now and wondering how she’s going to get £10,500 up to fix it and she’s now without a 7 seater which is making her job as a child minder very difficult.

Thanks

Many Things.
I would think a call to BLRC would answer most of those questions.

There is another LR guy near Tamnamore aswell that might be able to help.

Theres an ex Landrover mechanic outside Greyabbey, Jordan is his name. Might be able to dig up a number for him. Has it broken the crank?

BLRC in Saintfield would be my first call, know all there is to know about Land Rovers old and new!

Beyond Performance 4x4 is in Mallusk, but all I know about them is that they are a Land Rover specialist.

Jordan is your man, outside carrowdore. JR's garage. He is ex BLRC tech and knows these inside out. Handy enough paid too, although that wont be a cheap job by any means.

BLRC would be my choice but I wouldn’t fix it if it was me either.

What a cluster.

If she doesn’t fix it she’s stuck with a very expensive ornament and nobody will want it tbh.

I Tried BLRC three times this morning but no answer. I was speaking to Jordan there, really sound fella and he said he can get it sorted 100% and for probably around half the price of a new engine from LR!

Thanks a lot for the help(y)

Jordan is picking it up for her this week, she’s alot happier paying about half what she was quoted for a new engine and god knows what the labour charge would have been.

Thanks again.

What an absolute kick in the guts , and so close to christmas too only makes it worse, hope she gets sorted. LR make some fantastic looking vehicles, but i couldnt bring myself to buy in fear of the above or similar. real shame

He said there’s not a week or 2 goes by he doesn’t have one in for a snapped crank shaft or spun bearings. Unbelievable. And it’s less than a year out of warranty too

he literally does these in his sleep, sometimes has 2/3 at a time in there for engine replacement. Good shout, she wont be disappointed.

I've heard great reviews from a friend who uses him for all his RR needs.

I wouldn’t have much faith in a 2nd hand engine. Could end up costing her the full amount in the end. Get it up the road when done.

Amazing the amount of people that buy cars like this and forget how much they were new, and the potential maintenance costs that come with them.

A bmw 3.0d engine would make a good job of it, seems to be a good few done on the earlier discovery's.

Nice reliable vehicles ! ideal for jobs where you need transport lol.

Would be wise to get rid of it when fixed.

Earlier RR's would have used BMW engines, although not sure if they got the straight 6 at all ?

This happened to a friend of mine when he was in Germany and he decided in a new engine for future faith in the Disco. The quote was around €18000 (bear in mind it was in Germany and the new engine had to come from uk). When doing the work they found it needed extra work like injectors and turbos etc so the bill ended up being €23000. Good old British engineering. He did say he probably should have bought another one instead but then he could have been in the same situation all over again.
