I did say talk to me before you buy something…next thing big fancy disco at the door
To be fair the parents would probably rather see their children sitting in a big car.

This happened to a friend of mine when he was in Germany and he decided in a new engine for future faith in the Disco. The quote was around €18000 (bear in mind it was in Germany and the new engine had to come from uk). When doing the work they found it needed extra work like injectors and turbos etc so the bill ended up being €23000. Good old British engineering. He did say he probably should have bought another one instead but then he could have been in the same situation all over again.
Not that it really matters but the TDV6 is actually a Ford designed and built engine
Surprising, usually Ford's aren't that bad.
Was the engine ever used in any other vehicle ?
Looking parts for the l322 and normally a few calls and you get through, called literally over 20 times the last couple of days and not picked up once, must be mental busy.I Tried BLRC three times this morning but no answer.
I wouldn’t have much faith in a 2nd hand engine. Could end up costing her the full amount in the end. Get it up the road when done.
Amazing the amount of people that buy cars like this and forget how much they were new, and the potential maintenance costs that come with them.
How many bmw diesels stretched timing chains? Genuine question but was it not very common at a time? Did Audi not have a problem with 2.0tfsi’s suffering failures though maybe they weren’t catastrophic. Sadly I do agree though… there have been quite a lot of failures in the 2.7 / 3.0 Lion engine and LR seem to have washed their hands of the problem. I’d heard but don’t know for sure that because they have admitted some sort of fault that warranty companies would no longer stand over it.Maybe so, but I can't name one other car (modern or otherwise) with such prolific engine failure (save maybe the 1L ecoboost, but Ford seem to be very decent about contributing toward that). There's hardly a month goes by I don't hear about someone's Discovery needing an engine either on here or in the real world lol.
Hope she gets sorted ok.
I don’t believe there is a fix. If they do know the failure cause, they haven’t publiclaly stated it as far as I know. I think even we’ll serviced examples have failed. If you buy a new engine from JLR, have they actually fixed the core issue or know what is causing so many failures?
I’ve heard lack of proper service/low oil levels is one cause
The one I’ve talked about in the original post was fully serviced every year.

On the mk7 golf I had, air filter was only checked on the inspection service(every other service) and was only to be replaced if necessary. With most main dealers now offering so called” fixed price” servicing, unless it’s really bad, it will be given a blow out, or cleaned with a vacuum and put back in again. Some go as far as saying they are reducing waste.Legit, or "dealer stamp"....?
My car allegedly had full dealer history too....still had the original OEM air filter in it dated same year of car manufacture of 2015
I would not trust a dealer service history one bit.
