Mk 5 Golf GTI Head Unit

I have asked my son what he wants for xmas, and he has said he wants a touchscreen unit to replace his OEM one. Any recommendations on what to get?
Must be touchscreen with Sat Nav and apple Carplay.

Does wireless carplay and all the rest. Pretty good wee headunit.

Had an Erisin in my Cayenne and it was a solid unit in that too.

As far as I know they're all fairly similar so just find one with the best specs.

That Erisin unit is good looking. I put a Pioneer in my Mk5 Golf (GT Sport, not a GTI) but the maps function on the Pioneer is

You want the one with the digital equaliser. They actually sound pretty decent. The one I removed from the mk5 was dreadful. It was aftermarket as well but capacitive touch, no CarPlay etc etc. They’ve come a long way in the last few years.

I had an RCD330 which is an OEM unit from China and Russia as the MK5 Golf platform was still in use there up until a few years ago.

Downsides to it are 1) harder to get now and some units are just hacked together from others 2) no RDS on FM radio, 3) MFSW needs an adapter and 4) you might need an updated CANBUS
