The traction batteries of most EVs should still have a usable range long after the chassis they are attached to is ready for T-Met.

I think it’s more the niggly wee things could potentially cost thousands and the fact that the farm yard mechanic can’t touch them that puts people off.

As someone who is on second EV and having a weekend performance car l can tell you electric cars are dull as hell. Fantastic daily transport and if you run it through company/salary sacrifice with home charging it's cheap and painless to own. It's not going to replace the feeling of starting a large engine petrol powered car and going for a blast. If you are doing less than 200 miles per day it will be the cheapest form of motoring you can get. I would never get a Tesla, as inevitable creaks from the interior would drive me insane 😅

Some amount of cognitive dissonance going on when your weekend “performance” car is slower point to point than your “white goods” daily.
Ultimate speed is not everything if you are a petrol head. I am not even going to mention what l think of M3 looks 😁 Some things you cannot measure with logic, if you are not getting it now you won't get it, ever

Outright speed is one thing, emotional reward is totally separate. Coming from a household with an EV and a performance car, I can see the appeal of both but they’re very distinctly different in terms of usability and the boxes they tick. Have thought about a performance Tesla (and have been out twice in one) myself but always fear after the initial awe of the acceleration has worn off, I’d miss the engine noise and tactility I’ve grown used to with ICE cars.

Oh no I totally get you.

Just pointing out how people would spend thousands modifying their fossil fuelled cars to have anything like the torque curve of an EV but because it doesn’t make the same sound it’s somehow inferior 🤷🏼‍♂️

You would. They are very capable but the are firmly in the great daily driver camp and nothing else.

@gcon45 agree somewhat on the speed but there is more to it than just sound. I’d love to have a go in that New Ionic 5 N to see how it feels.

My weekend car is not modified in any way. And no offence, but second part of this☝🏻 post just confirms you don't get it. Not everyone is a petrol head and that is ok.
Again my experience with electric cars is pretty extensive , in fact we are getting our 4th electric car delivered by the end of June.
Not arguing, it's difficult to explain these things to people who are not car-mad. When l asked my friends son what car they like, he replied Tesla. That immediately tells me he is not interested in cars at all. No other questions need to be asked.

Are there any independent garages in NI that specialise in EV's yet?

That would make a big difference, if problems could be looked at other than at the main dealer.

I was playing devil’s advocate to a point.

On a nice day the first vehicle I want to be on is my motorbike, second would be my “performance” Honda NSX (I hope spending Ferrari money on a Honda gets me a petrol head certificate) and last would be my “quicker than sh*te off a shovel” EV daily.
I’m a hypocrite just like you 😄

That's a pretty good plan 👌🏻

If you are a proper petrol-head and enjoy driving, there's a very strong argument that 200bhp is enough power.

Some of the Tesla-beards could tell you better, but I think a 2020 car has the old heater? They just aren't able to do the claimed range in our climate (though what a dual motor will do, is likely more than enough).

& Lastly, I have just sold a petrol hybrid to a guy who's 2nd Model S, drove into Tesla Boucher with a warning on the dash & left with a quote for a new battery. He's 8 weeks out of warranty.

I have driven plenty of them and have said it time and time again. It just wouldn't be for me....

I personally believe leasing is the way to go. The offers you can get are unreal. Then you don't have to worry about repairs, depreciation, mots ,etc. With current financial climate and interest rates £20k car on finance will work out at way higher monthly payments than a brand new one on lease

Would be no finance on it.

Any decent lease deals on a Tesla? I’m seeing like £700 pm which is way too much

Any non business/nhs type deals are normally expensive, probably because the cars are so expensive to begin with and they depreciate like crazy in the first few years.

Never said anything about Tesla, Leasing.com is great. Just getting a car from a dealer in Edinburgh , delivered to Cairnryan. Need to be open to make and model and deals are to be had. If you are buying outright then it's s different story. Work out if it's right for you , but home charger and economy 7 are a must.
