Picked this up just over a year ago from England. I think this is the longest I’ve kept a car in 3-4 years now.

Know my way around these as I’ve had several over the last few years. They’re good fun and they sure surprise a lot of people.

Standard 150bhp so not mega quick to begin with but I’ve done the following

BBT K280 ko3s hybrid
Porter exhaust manifold
BAM intake with single pass cooler
550cc injectors
Oversized TIP
3” MAF
Pro race engineering forged rods
3.5” - 3” - 2.5” downpipe
Milltek cat back
Powder coated subframe, arms, consoles and rear axle
Fully poly bushed
312mm front brakes
256mm rear brakes
VR6 clutch and G60 flywheel
Solid shifter cable bushes

Belt, roller and hydraulic tensioner replaced when doing the rods. Usual, filter and oil service every 5-6k or so. It’s due now so will get that done ASAP.

It will be sitting on KW V1 coilovers in a couple of weeks and Compomotives mo5 wheels all being well.

It’s ‘around’ 250-260hp at the minute. Slight ticking noise from cold then it disappears so I’m thinking tensioner or lifters are starting to get a bit tired. I’ve a head here to throw onto it when I get a spare day or two.

When I finally do that it’ll be ready to final map, should see around 290-300hp happily.

So out came the engine. Block and head split apart. Pistons removed and placed in really good degreaser who’s name escapes me now 🤔 rings grooves and top of pistons cleaned, rings also cleaned. It’s good to have a clean ring 🌚

Then torqueing the manifold on this happens...

Started on the intercooler. Sits nicely behind the bumper. I did have the stainless turbo outlet pipe but now swapped to alloy. Sits neater behind the bumper.

I bought old brakes and refurbed them with a rebuild kit from brakeparts website and got them powder coated.

Smaller odyssey battery to allow the intercooler piping to pass. The inlet was towards the driver side but BAM has it towards passenger side for better flow.

Haven’t had many blips up the road but it does pull away from a brand new Golf R which is pleasing. So with an extra 30-40hp it should be fairly nippy.

What a cool little wagon. I always thought these would make a great base for some choice tweaks as a daily.

Cool wee car mate! May have to remember not to try and race you if I see you on the road

Some effort gone into this (y)

This the one i tried to race lol ?

Thanks everyone, it’s a handy daily for sure.

Yes but it didn’t have the hybrid, rods or cooler back then. So was only around 220hp haha. Maybe you were just driving with your handbrake on? 😎

Haha nah the hurst is only like 200bhp so was always going to be a struggle. Was wondering when i read 260bhp how it wasn't a bigger gap but 220bhp makes sense

Just been driving away at the car recently, surprising many on the roads. Looking forward to getting the KW variant 1 into it, the shocks currently are long past their best. Front wings could do with a correction as they’re only really noticeably faded when sunny.

Bought a stud and nut conversion, handy when running spacers and like the look of them also.

Also keep toying with the idea of buying a cup bumper like the one below. Always have the thought of selling even though it does everything I need it to. So the idea of spending £800 for a bumper and paint is maybe a bit nuts.

Would also like to get a track day done this year. Would need good tyres for that and also pads. More than likely get Federal RSR 595 tyres for it if I manage to get down to a track day.

Thanks

Polo sold this evening! Think I’ll miss it more than I realise, highlight probably was sitting with my friends stage 1 Golf R :joy: which I’m not sure he was too happy about! Now to search for another car
