How good are Quinn with declaring engine modifications?

I tried speaking to them on the phone but the language barrier meant that we struggled with the engine mods. I can get the bodykit etc declared but my future plans for a modified cylinder head and bigger turbo got lost in translation.

Basically, are Quinn expensive when it comes to modified engines? What sort of certificiation is needed? I think she got confused and thought I wanted to change the engine for a different one. Does anyone know if they insure on a declared BHP basis?

You would be better going for someone more specialist who will have an idea about high lift cams and all that carry on. Someone like Adrain Flux if they cover here.

I got a quote today based on body mods and Quinn Direct are cheaper than Adrian Flux. They just didn't inspire me with confidence over the phone. I know that quite a few people from this forum have mentioned them though so perhaps they aren't all that bad ?

I've been with Quinn Direct since I passed my test (3 years NCB)
No probs at all and very helpful when needed (First car written off outside my house - thankfuly nobody in it)

You are right Daz - some of the call centre people are just there for the job and don't know the mechanical end of cars
(I'm one to talk :oops: - even applied for the job a while back)

I know for sure that they will allow all cosmetic mods - alloys, ICE, bodykits, exhausts...

Here is what I've been told by Quinn Direct (after various calls);

Their only concerns are lowering the suspension and engine mods - you need to declare the mods by getting an approved mechanic to fill out an engineer's report form to prove the car is fit for the road

@ Suspension mods don't affect your premium much (if at all) but the report form needs to be sent in to prove the car is roadworthy.

@ Engine mods are a little bit more complicated and sometimes go by bHp % increase. Say you increased your bHp from 100 to 110 (10 %) then you pay a 10% increase on your premium

@ Tinted windows are a different story - they allow the back & rear sides done as the new laws state the car will not be raod legal with tinted windows forward from the B-Pillar

Quinn are good - of course I would say that, sure its my name too :innocent:

i rang up to declare my mods, but the bint on the phone had to get me to spell out "lowered suspension" before she went and consulted her supervisor. Then she said it shouldnt be a problem, as with the exhaust and alloys.

I love professionals :p

It took Quinn one week to send me out a form so that I could apply for insurance only for me to discover that I needed an engineers report. I needed insurance to get the thing on the road and they never mentioned any of that on the phone!!

They weren't even prepared to give me temporary insurance over the phone. It's a shame because they were pretty cheap too.
