Unreal dude, when I saw mine blasted it was a huge milestone.

Shell looks good and Alan is a Gentleman, would certainly use him again.

What is the plan of action now?

Some amount of work in this. Out of interest, who blasted it? The thought of doing more to the floor of my 205 with a wire wheel is should destroying!

Alan Karkness In cullybackey blasted it for me. Top man and good service.
I feel your pain with the wire wheel,
As long as you have any sticky waxoil stuff off he can do the rest in taking sealer etc off.

Plan of action is to try and get the lift up over Christmas here and then get it to the bodyman/welder in January.

The shell will get some repairs where needed and then the whole thing painted inside/outside and underneath.
Then the rebuild process starts.

It’ll be like a patchwork quilt lol as the chassis will be one colour and the original doors/wings and bumpers will all be the blue but don’t care as on the track I don’t want to have to worry about aesthetics.

While it’s away I’m also going to revamp the garage a little. Just a paint/some insulation/some new lights and make a large workbench/work area.

Got it out into daylight today for the first.

Few pics of the work done.

So much tidier and cleaner and he actually said it was one of the best shells he’s done so I’m happy that all is sealed and only the bits that need repaired need the epoxy ground back a few mm to weld/repair to.

Repairs will be to both rear arches and the 6/8 inches where the rear quarter runs up the sill to the joint, as well as the rear crash barrier area that had collected water and rusted.

He did point out something I had missed which was the drain seal at the front of each sills, which he said that if i was keeping it to replace that small area too which was starting to bose a tiny bit.

Alan had said that due to the nature of it not having a roof, getting some grit/glass in the epoxy was inevitable as every little crevice and any hole just collects it so that when spraying it it blows out.
Any of these bits can be rubbed down before priming to hopefully give that smooth finish.

Overall I’m very happy and, as with everything, the lift has been delayed slightly but should have it in within the next week.

Looks like a top job. Great to catch some of the minor surface rust in some areas before it got a chance to become a problem.

Yes exactly.
I must say I’m pleasantly surprised that everything else is solid and at least I have the piece of mind that it will last. 👍🏻

So one of my good friends is a mechanic and when I told him I was going to buy a lift he said that he was getting a new one and that I could have the old one. An absolute bargain rather than forking out for a new one.

He dropped it down today so I’ll get it offloaded tomorrow and set up inside after a clean.

We’re getting there now.
Get the shell away to the painter in January and give the garage a refresh for it coming back. 💪

The shell looks awesome mate. Good call.

Very jealous of the lift. I dare say that will be priceless during the rebuild.

Hadn’t posted in a while.

After I got the car back from blasting there was grit in the wee nooks and granny’s around the arches so I set to rubbing it all out as best I could.

It came up pretty well,.

Bit more progress,

My cousin was in and wired the place for all the sockets and led bar lights that I want.

The stove is going in on Sunday, just where the left edge of table tennis table is.

And then the rafters & insulation done next Saturday.

Ive been lucky to have a lot of tradesmen mates chipping in and helping out all through this project which is massively appreciated and does make it easier.

Friday night,..Hoovering cobwebs/ prepping walls and emptying peroni’s.

Bit more progress today.

Got some bracing done on the rafters to allow them to take the insulated boards. Also got 2 vents on each gable put in for a bit of airflow in the void and to prevent any rot setting in.

Insulated board arrived too.
