Been an age since I got near it with work and family time but with a new addition on the way in 4 weeks I thought I’d get out for a few nights and push it on.
Cavity waxed the entire chassis, every hole, every crevice, every gap!
With that done we got into the brake lines.
Just mimicked the old lines with a shaping tool as best I could and went from pictures to see exactly where they went in relation to the chassis and other bits around them.
They’re now all done and bolted down, bar the lines to the master cylinder/servo which will be grand. They aren’t yet straight which is seriously seriously bugging me. I know you won’t see anything 6-8 inches from the abs unit in the bay, as they’re behind the block, but they have to be straight or it’ll just annoy me.
Now that they’re bolted down, I have various “pivot points” to work them into shape so that’s an evenings tweaking.
Out of curiosity I thought it would be a good idea to disassemble an ABS unit to see how it worked,… note to self and others,..never do this again!!, absolute poison to get back together and I actually ended up breaking it in the process. Got a spare unit from a friend and cleaned it down and painted to freshen it up in the bay.
With the lines done I wired the bay and bolted a lot of the loom down so it’s ready for everything. Fans/headlights/water draws/ indicators/wipers/ all good to go.
Sitting tonight rebuilding the rack with new tie rods/rod ends and ribbed sleeve covers etc to get it onto the front subframe.
Plan after that is to wire the engine on the ground and have it so that I can bolt upwards to the chassis and fish the loom into the ecu to have us done. Hopefully have the engine in next week.
Santa is just around the corner, and it’s only when you get to this stage you realise, “Awk I can’t put all those old rough windscreen and door rubbers/boot and roof surrounds/chassis bungs/wheel arch guards back on” so there’s another Anayama order on the way to have all the nice finishing touches sitting just right. Should be here just before Christmas.
I know it’s not finished, by any means, but the plan would be to definitely do this whole process again with something else. I think it’s the only way I’d have a few nice cars later in life as a mini collection rather than buying them mint.
Was sitting last night thinking of what would be a great one to do next but as yet couldn’t come up with one. Open to suggestions from all.
