Who would do it without charging dealership prices?

Oil, filter, some mesh thing in the gearbox changed, and a general mechanical checkover.

RMS_CLK Kieran maybe! As good a man as any i'd say! Just leave him with 2 spare rubbers in the boot, so he can change them afterwards aswell!

For a car like this i'd reccomend a Mercedes trained technician, know the car inside out. Ill get a couple of phone numbers for ya mate!

mercs are probably the second easiest cars to work on next to vauxhall, with bmw coming a close third!
have worked onthem all so it's not a problem at all

Not talking you down Bibby, but it pays to have someone who knows the car inside out when servicing. Little things you pick up when working with the same car day in day out make all the difference. I wouldnt service my merc myself thats how strong I feel about this. Same as I know mechanics who would prefer for me to look at their audi's.

i have worked on mercs prety much constantly though kieran also, as i do work for a man in ballyclare at night which is 90% german stuff
specialising in porsche, though we have worked on hundreds a merc, bm, vag etc etc,
you might even know him, amg cars, alan mcgookin, porsche master technician until he left agnews to work for him self, and now he has alot of the work from agnews, the sales staff even reccomend people to go to him to save the expense of a dealership!!!

Right all that is quite easy except for the 'mesh' lol. I take it by that you mean the syncromesh is arsed? That is a job for somebody who can do gearbags and could be quite expensive depending on what exactly is wrong with it.

its not arsed, its recommended that this mesh be taken out and the oil changed. Something id like done before I sell it since I know the new owner quite well.
