Nice, who did the bolts for you?
Eagle electro plating in sandynose direction. Full bucket £60 so thought that was good.

Had to sort them out obviously when I got them back lol , and just getting through them now.

Any ones that are missing are in the amayama box as I had to order those new as some were wrung/past their best.

Also bought a load of these, which will come in handy for sorting them into sizes for building.

I’m making a wall plate so they’ll all sit above the bench and up out of the road to pick from.

Last bit of cleaning today also. Have the block outside and nearly done with the aluminium corrosive cleaner.

To be honest some of the underside isn’t coming up as “new” but 4 or 5 goes of “settle and agitating” is getting rid of the crust.

Also went through some quality control with the bolts to make sure they’re up to scratch. Almost passed the taste test before some intervention.

Not a massive update but it feels a significant one.

Bolted the first parts onto the car tonight.

Also started to tap the threads in the front subframe and start bolting it together.

One thing I forgot was the flipping engine mounts believe it or not lol. Ordered them tonight so they should be here in a week or so and then we can get the engine onto the frame and the car lowered down ontop.

I’m actually going to do the engine loom outside the car and then just fish the driver and passengers side through. Seems to be an easier job from what I gather than the why I had intended (the reverse).

Broke my temperature sensor and vtec solonoid so have to new ones of those too now.

Progress all the same 👌👍

You'll never be able to use it, that's so nice and shiny, lol

How you even know what goes where, never mind if something is missing, is beyond me :innocent:

Lovely!

Lovely!

The pictures I took help a lot and in fairness I have a mate who is an absolute whizz
kid with these cars. He has a turbo one at over 600 ponies and if it wasn’t for him It would be taking a hell of a lot longer to do everything. His advice has been invaluable.

I actually only hand tightened those last night to get a look. Need to get a big tub of copper grease today to properly grease each bolt/thread before they go in. 👍👌

Mounts arrived.

Also after a lot of hmmming and haaaaing, decided not to buy the new coilivers,. Yet at least.

Decided to split the ones I have, powder coat the springs along with a few other bits that I missed the first time and just fire them in. If and when I decide to upgrade, that’ll be a wee job when it’s actually running.

As I’ve found a lot along the way of this build. You could procrastinate and talk yourself into buying everything under the sun and never get it on the road. So I made an “executive decision” to just run with what I have in the meantime once they’re tarted up a bit.

I’m cleaning them up now and they’re actually in decent nick. They’ll suffice to ensure that all the components are working and allow me to get it onto 4 wheels quicker.

Still haven’t pulled the trigger on the rims yet either but again I have a dud set that will get it on the ground at least.

Next up is get the engine into mounts and onto subframe. Hoping to have the new brake/fuel lines made and installed within the next week or so 2 as they need to be done before anything else.

👌👍

Right call. One thing at a time, get it back on the road and go from there. It's only once it's running you know what is working and what isn't.

Back at it tonight and a few more bits done.

Mounts in and engine bolted down.

got the new intake gasket on and the water pump and auxiliary belt tensioner too. New oil filter on too.

Then took a look inside the head for the first time. Really happy with how it looks. All silver and no dull orangey/brown bits around any of the cams.

Have all the pulleys and a few other bits to go to the powdercoaters this week to get finished.

Few more bits done last night.

Had to get a 12 sided socket set to get the flywheel off and changed the pilot bearing.
To be honest there didn’t seem to be anything wrong with it but because I’d ordered one I pressed it in.

I have all the torque specs from the workshop manual so it went to 94ft/pounds.

Then put the new OEM pressure plate, clutch release bearing and clutch on. Used an alignment tool to get the clutch right and it was only 19ft/pounds.

Next was, the “slider” I’ll call it, that goes over the input shaft to the gearbox. Greased it well up with some Urea and a nip of the same around where the clutch fork goes in.

Then got everything lined up and got the gearbox on.

Good nights work.

I’m missing a bell housing bolt so have to order that as well as a load of
Other bits and pieces but we’re getting there. 👌👍

Yea you’re dead right, that will happen lol!

I bought these the other day. All the bolts are 10s/12s/14s, and 17s for the subframes /diff and gearbox etc. (all the running gear parts) as I call them.

I split all the smaller ones 10s and 12s into they’re respective lengths so they’ll be easier used when the time comes. Makes it much tidier.

Also realised today for the first that we actually have a soda blaster out at home so might give that a whirl this weekend on a few bits.

Biggest pain is the “shields” as I’ll call them,

F43850DF-B1E7-4757-BD04-28F12D8BBE36.jpeg

I bought 2 new and was going to get the other 2 that I have, powder coated black satin. Just realised that they all need to go on to the hub before you can get the bearings pressed in so rather than wait a week or two on the powder coating of the old two (along with the other bits), I might blast them tomorrow/prime and paint myself. That way I can get all the bearings /bushings done and just await the other powder coated bits as they won’t hold
me up.

Also went and bought a whiteboard to keep track of where I am.

Nearly gets you down when you look at how much you still have to do lol. But we’ll get there. 👍

To Order...Number 6 :eek::cool:
Lol. That was more for humour I must admit,..(as I cried to all the rest I have yet to get)

That is the ultimate plan though. 6-12 months of bedding everything in and having her driving well and I’ll be going that way I think.

I read too much on these cars, (chief procrastinator) especially on the US side, and everyone says to go turbo for power. At he minute I just don’t like them at all. On both a sound and power delivery basis I just can’t see that I’d enjoy it.

Of course it’s personal preference but the supercharger just accentuates the power curve/ oem delivery and the difference in sound alone sells me straight off.

LHT in America do some awesome work with the kraftworks kit and it gets them to circa 350-400 horse without internals or fuel pump upgrades so that would be the goal. Any more than that and the lack of talent will have me picking thorns out of my arse I’d say 👌👍

Definitely supercharger unless you just want a stupid bhp straight line drag car off the lights. Which is all the Yanks want so they go turbo.

Been a while since I’ve got near the car with work being busy and just general life getting in the way.

Am still awaiting a few key parts arriving but have been doing some stuff in the background. Half shafts, steering rack, diff and fuel tank all ground down in prep for paint.

I have new tie rods and ends etc so just left them on until painted and then put the new ones on as well as new rubber boots for rack etc.

Got some of the priming and painting done and continuing tonight.

C76B90D8-1BAB-46EE-B8F7-3133B4AF2432.jpeg

Half shafts not looking too bad and much better than paying for new ones.

Tank was next, and again looks much tidier.

After first coat of primer so still looks a bit patchy, didn’t take a pic after 2nd coat.

9DD563B2-34F8-4BDF-9EF0-84BE3733FB06.jpeg

Was prepping the diff and realised one of the mounting shafts is bent so have to replace those before it’s ready too.

Getting into the rack tonight.

Primer taking to it well enough and still good definition in the shape. I’ll coat it twice with silver now. 👌

Lift the rest of the powder coating tomorrow and then we can properly get into organising it to be built up. 👍

And done.
Few bits of masking to take off the rubbers but came out ok.

New rubber sleeves and tie rods and rod ends to put on and she’ll be good to go onto the subframe.
