On Friday Jane and I flew across from Belfast to Newcastle with the intention of purchasing a 2018 AMG GTR that I had put a deposit on. The Giulia had just gone to it’s new owner so I was toy less, I have been after a proper toy for a while now but nothing was really tickling my fancy and I had settled on the GTR as being the best of all worlds.
Performance 28 in Newcastle were superb to work with, the GTR was a fantastic car, drove really well, as fast as you could ever want but it didn’t pull at my heart strings. This was surprising as on paper it should have been perfect for me. I think after stepping out of the Giulia I needed a bit more soul in a car.
Having previously owned an 01 4.2 Cerbera many’s a year ago and it being the only car that I really really regret parting with we drove out to HHC in Hexham to have a look at a black Sagaris they had in stock.
After a brief chat with Tony the owner and a bite of lunch in Hexham Jane and I took the Sagaris out a run.
Well within 50ft of HHC I turned to jane and said this is what I want, there was an immediate sense of everything being exactly as it should be, a proper connection to the car. I had forgotten how much I love tvrs.
The rest of the test drive about another 15 miles was me laughing and grinning like a Cheshire Cat.
It’s nowhere near as fast or as well built as the GTR but as I have now discovered that means nothing to me, no abs, no traction control, no airbags give me a much of a thrill as outright pace. It’s not slow by any means I’m certainly not disappointed in its performance. I have genuinely never been happier to part with money to buy a 16 year old upside down boat.
It’s getting serviced and mot’d then she will be back to Belfast. I am as excited to get this car back home as I have ever been, I’m also excited about it being along term project. They only made 200 or so sagaris, and not that many are left, but this one is staying..
Summer will hopefully be good and I can use away at it then autumn time I’m going to go to town on this car and make her as good as she can possibly be.
