Was at Elvington yesterday for the 2021 Volvo 600 world record attempt for the most number of Volvos driving in single file:
Short background: In 2019, over 1500 Volvos from across the country gathered at Bruntingthorpe, itself the largest gathering of privately owned Volvos in the UK.
But the main goal was to break a record set in Poland for the largest number of cars driving in single file. Current record is 570 cars.
Being an official Guinness world record there are many and detailed rules, and the attempt failed on the "maximum two car lengths gap" rule.
So another attempt was scheduled for last year, and cancelled for obvious reasons. But yesterday it finally went ahead, this year at Elvington air field in York. Again 1500 cars were signed on, around 900 showed up on the day.
I have no idea if it succeeded or not, but it was a great day out. Like an old-school car show, except all in one, lol. From immaculate classics to modern dailies. From rat to wrap. From wheels and stickers to neon. From fun to deadly serious.
It was a good day
Good turn-out of Polestars too! I've never seen another "in the wild", so to meet up with a dozen cars was quite a treat (The eagle eyed might just spot the group of T-5R's that just happened to pass on the runway behind, very fitting)
The one on the left is Ian's, the man running the small but dedicated Polestar owners' club. And yes, that's how he runs his car - it was not just for the day
I'll be adding up a couple of batches of pictures in following posts.
