Finally getting around to getting a thread of this up, my new (to me) Golf Mk6 R.

I had been on the lookout for a different car for a while which began by searching quite a few different cars including: Mk3 Focus ST, Astra GTC VXR, Mk6 R, Mk6 GTI ED35, Mk3 Leon Cupra, GT86 & 370z. After test driving some and ruling others out for various reasons, the final shortlist became the Mk6 R, Mk6 GTI ED35 and Mk3 Leon Cupra. With the availability of these cars over here few and far between, I was all poised to make the right spec came up (3rd, manual and some car specific things) and almost had one at the tail end of last summer from southwest England but didn’t work out. A few more came up but timing didn’t work then as I was in the middle of closing on a house so was being patient and waiting for something right to come up in spring or summer and potentially get Mk5 GTI or Mk2 Focus ST to fill in for now, however this came up for sale locally at a keen price, full dealer / specialist history, lowish miles for the age and a rare unmodified (except for H&R lowering springs) so became too good of an opportunity to pass and it was purchased. It was for sale through a dealer on behalf of someone else, so price was firm but I was in contact with who they were selling it for who included the OEM 19” talladega’s amongst other things in the deal.

The plan for now is unknown with the exception of getting a CarPlay head unit installed, cruise control retrofitted and the talladega’s refurbed and fitted at some stage later in the year but also playing with the idea of BBS CH-R’s, Rotiforms or OZ’s as well.

Anyway, I’ve rambled on enough, so have some snaps

Very nice, that looks like a good one.I was looking at these myself, looked at a local red one but it wasn’t for me and ended up with something else. HTD.

Very nice! I think how rare the Mk6R was has helped to make them a bit more special.

Will look much better on the Talladega’s too.

Leather or cloth?

Cheers - was that the DSG in Ards? Was tempted to view that one, just to try out a DSG

Definitely helps massively and ruled out a Mk7 R based on them being everywhere.

Full leather (heated)

Such a good looking car, helped by being a bit rare too!

Never really liked Golfs but had a mk6 diesel as a courtesy car last year and it was great, would love one to over daily from the Volvo.

Lovely looking! Have to admit I've looked at these in the past but know nothing about them. Are they the last of the TFSI or the first of the TSI? 4WD, FWD? Either way I'd say they go well.

Cheers!

Last of the TFSI - standard Mk6 GTI was the start of the TSI but VW went back to TFSI for these and the ED35 and the R’s are 4WD

In sense I am happy the Mk6 R never took off like the Mk7 R did it makes them that bit rarer on the road and its a refreshing change when you see one.
That looks a lovely example and I love the wheels that are currently fitted. Maybe you might get to a cars and coffee at some point as id love to get a proper look round it.

That looks fantastic. Ironically, never see many of these on the road but I was beside a blue 3dr this morning.

I really like these and they're a rare sight but like waiting ages for a bus a load come at the same time. 2 blue 2 doors (one priced at £20k) and a fresh jap import black 4 door on FB marketplace currently.

Not sure Japan got the 3dr version. They could've done, but haven't seen any.

The imports always seem to be better specced as a general rule. Lot more with reversing cameras, sunroofs, wingbacks etc

Love that! I got a quick look at it up at the Boulevard. (y)

I was on the verge of buying one of those last year, but couldn't find a Rising Blue DSG 3door with Leather, so went for the BMW instead!

Lovely car and those alloys are far nicer than the original IMO

My only issue with these is that to the untrained eye, they dont look any different that any other sporty models like the GTD etc. I just think they are slightly underwhelming.

Still, a lovely looking car all the same and HTD

Cheers Tufty and yeah I should hopefully get to a couple over the year

Are all the JDM ones 5dr & DSG or is it just coincidence the ones I've seen?

Japan seemed to only get 5dr DSG's otherwise a jap import would've been a strong option although there are quite a number of these coming in which may dilute the 5dr ownerships a tad

The R has a different front and rear bumpers (no fogs / different DRL location / grills and center exhaust etc) when compared to the GTD/GTI (both run the same style bumpers) but yeah, both the R and GTI has been copied to death with kitted 1.6 diesels
