World Time Attack Championships 2012 Sydney

Just though I would post up some photos from the WTAC at Eastern Creek Race Course Sydney. As soon as I heard 2 off my favourite Evos where going to be at this, Cyber Evo and Redbrick Racing Evo, I had to jump on a flight over to Sydney to see them in real life. Apologies for the quality off the pictures, they where taking with a cheapy point and shoot camera and my iPhone. Will be back again tomorrow so will hopefully get more.

Now my 2 favourite Evos, a massive thank you to Robin and his family, after introducing myself they allowed me into their garage to see the Evo up close and despite being very busy Robin made some time to come over and chat with me, so thank you Robin, your a gentleman.

The Cyber Evo

I had heard a lot off rumours about this car being very rough around the edges etc but wanted to see for myself and well the rumours are true. Dont get me wrong, its a race car so not going to look fresh all the time but in my opinion the quality and workmanship off it was very very poor and despite it being totally redesigned recently, the quality off the work was very poor, Robins Evo was 100x the car in my opinion, but still Im glad I finally got to see it

SERIOUS event, it's getting better every year! Can't wait to see what Cyber does, and Under Suzuki s15! Shame Ark Design BNR32 didn't make it!

Very very jealous... Love TA. The amount of money and the ideas (mad aero) that is thrown at the cars is unreal...

Crazy stuff going on, love the JHH Honda CRX, Nemo is doing well, serious build! Great to see the devlopment/tuning at that high level

Have loads off new pictures from today, will upload them all later when I get back to the hotel. Yeah the Nemo Evo is destroying the competition but what do you expect with a money no object build, think it did a lap 3seconds quicker than the TA record set by Cyber Evo last year, have loads off pictures off the Nemo Evo. Cyber Evo hasnt put in a run today as it seems to be having problems.

Well its save to say as expected the Nemo Evo completely destroyed the competition this year and came away with a 1:25 lap time which I believe was something crazy like 3 seconds quicker than the Time Attack lap record which was set by the Cyber Evo last year. As for the Cyber Evo, it didnt even get a timed run done, the team kept having engine problems and on the second to last run I believe engine had an oil problem, sprayed oil over the entire track and when it pulled into the pits they had to get the fire extingushers out to stop the fire in the engine bay. This also meant racing was stopped for an hour or so whether they tried to clean up all the oil from the track. Unfortunately Redbrick racing where having a few problems as well but as Robin said, that motorsport for you, you have your good days and your bad days.

Anyway here are more pictures from today and what can I say, had an absolute brilliant day and I owe a lot off that too Robin. He once again allowed me into his pit garage and even very kindly give me a Competitor wrist band meaning I could walk up and down the pit lane and get a better look at all the other cars, Robin you are a complete gentleman and I thank you for your kindness over the passed 2 days, I will definately be back next year to support you. The Nemo Evo was just unreal and you could see it was a money no object build, I dont even think you could call it an Evo anymore cause it was pretty much a roll cage with a carbon fibre shell built around it. This monster had that much aero on it that down the main straight it was something like 50-60km/h slower than the rest off the Evos but the first corner at end off straight it didnt even have to lift off the gas while the rest did. It was doing something crazy like 3.5g round the first corner while the rest off the Evos could only manage 1.8g.
