lol at this thread

I detail but specialise mostly in localised scratch repair. It's only a hobby for me now though :grinning:

Theres a product on the market im going to start using.. Brings your paint up like new... Heard good reports on it.. You just put it on with a paint brush

another classic RMS thread about who details what and how much they charge and how terrible everyone else but themselves it - who cares?

The people doing it as a living and paying on the site are using detailing to support themselves, a family etc. hence why they pay to advertise their business and time. They do nto pay to have work slagged off by others who think their next door neighbours grannys dog could do a better job.

People need to stop taking it so seriously and get over the fact that some people enjoy doing it in their spare time - some good some not so good!

It is a skill that these people have worked on and built up over the years - to some it may seem anal or OTT but thats your opinion - they dont give others a hard time for playing football or rugby etc which some may enjoy doing in their spare time!

To an extent I agree, you'd get slagged rotten for using a non big brand polish or scratch remover from some people on here, and to be fair the only people that would be able to tell any difference is the car polishers that spend their days looking at paint under bright lights anyway :p

I lol'd when the Halfords clay kit was mentioned some time ago. The sheer horror that was shown towards it really made me chuckle. Maybe it is shoite, maybe if it was stuffed into a meguiars carton it may all of a sudden get more credit? Who knows...

What I would love to do is get all this fancy expensive stuff and all the run of the mill products into non-branded bottles. Give the car polishers the products and let them work away at a car, giving them a day to sort it out.

Afterwards a vote on the best finish by us everyday car enthusiasts and a vote by the car polishers on ease of use to see if there really is that much of a difference.

What ever is in
There is a couple of things in the above comments, which I think are bit stupid..... Don't be thinking that everything that detailers use, is MEGA money cause it's not....

Polishs, glass cleaner, soaps etc are all the same money....

Halfords Clay Kit £19.99, a bar of the MEGA MONEY DETAILER Sonus Clay £7.99...

All you need is a cap full of saop in a trigger bottle of water, or some Megs last touch and your away....

NOW Detailing is called DETAILING, cause it goes into more DETAIL than a Valet... SIMPLE...

So this takes more man hours, so it requires more money... SIMPLE...

Look at this detail for eg...

Detailer's Domain: Mini Cooper Nightmare - Detailing World

Seat removed, wheels off, arches done, wet sanding....

This all takes time, so that is why it costs more....

Its a bit like getting your hair cut... Go to the barbers, be out in 15 mins, someone shooting " Who da feck is next", big fat men to look at, and all this for a £5.00.... They have lower overheads and it take less time, so it is cheaper....

Go to a PRO hair dresser, get to look a SEXY ladies, get a head massage, take time to cut my hair, cup of coffee and few wee sweets, modern shop, etc..... With alot more overheads, all for lets say £16.00.....

So call into a side of the road car wash, sponges, 1 person from Japan washing, 1 person from Denmark rinsing, all for a £5.00....

Go to a Pro DETAILER, has to pay unit rent, insurance, power, heat.... Get you car pre washed, washed, rinsed with filtered water, all for £10.00....

This is really really simple.....

TIMES have moved on, from using a bit of shower gel, and a face cloth to wash a car..... The same way we all used to use a 35mm camera and take it to Boots to get developed, we now have DIGITAL....

RANT OVER...

I agree with that bud. I love having a clean car and when I spend a full day (or two) cleaning it inside and out, I am really happy with it and feel a sense of acheivement but if I took it to Amos or Brisa they would probably laugh at it!

Its the same with everything though, some people take it to the "next level" were as others are happy with what they do (that would be me)...

i love having a clean car, inside and out! and when i am cleaning it i do spend a good couple of hours doing it.

I dont agree with you steveo when you say that you think a proper detailer would laugh at your cleaning effort, because im sure they would know that everyone has to start somewhere and you dont just become good at something overnight!

Completely hit the nail on the head (y)

Hence why I don't post in car care anymore to much opinions and controversy when alot of people don't have a clue what they are talking about.

Who are all the Detailers on here?

Just curious to see who are the detailers on here...
pro & semi-pro...full & part-time...
and where are youse? Some of you are
obvious, some not so much:relieved:
:confounded: i think maybe some people here are missing the point and are going straight into negative mode,ie instead of pointing the finger and presuming that this was a plug for business or free advertising or to check out the rival detailer/valeter maybe the question was put out there to genuinely see who else also done this line of work as in some cases when detailing certain cars you can hit a problem or two especially with the paint correction so it is always good to know of a few others who do this job and may have come across the same problems so that they could be contacted for some advice but i suppose i will get a few negs on this reply, well it helps to look at the bigger picture intsead of a quick glance and then straight into rant mode, anyway the frontera that fella done was top class(y)
