Haha cheers, it's the plate placement that makes it look a bit odd at first as its quite high up!

@PeteMoore I honestly didn't think it would drive as nicely as it does, you'll have to get a run in it when the new control arms and bushes are in.

Soooo, where to begin?

Xposed in Dublin and Players Classic at Goodwood Motor Circuit...

Took the trip down to Dublin for Xposed. My dad had got the new bushes and control arms etc fitted for me in time for mot. I was amazed by how well the car drove after this work.
I got back over to NI for the bank holiday weekend and took a race down to Xposed. Fantastic show that had a very nice, relaxed atmosphere.

Whilst I was slowly getting happier with the car there were some aspects that just annoyed me. Main problem being the front bumper, mirror caps, wings and the stone chips on them. So I begged the guy that does my painting to do these for me last minute. I was initially faced with a "f**k off I'm busy" which turned to "I can do your mirror caps" to "ok take the bits you want done off asap and I'll have them done.....except the wings". So I did just that!

Last Thursday night I got a flight over to pick the car up and head to Goodwood for Players Classic, leaving the house at 6am on Friday morning with @jayme as passenger. We met up with our friend Ronan and his better half from Cork in his Mk1 G60 Golf which is caged with bucket seats and harnesses. Surprisingly they had no sore back complaints during the journey!

That evening we arrived at the hotel, which was a few minutes from the race track. When we arrived we knew we were in the right place.

On another subject I miss my E28, really should be building it, but anyway.

We noticed we had parked next to a tap and hose, so asked if we could use it and washed the cars at the hotel.

The next day was another early start, but by god was it worth it! Running of the show was seamless, and we were parked in less than 20mins.

Utterly fantastic show and quite frankly a day doesn't give you enough time to see everything! The quality of cars and bikes was just stunning, and I was glad just to have got an entry.

After the show we took a tear around the surrounding villages. Really is a nice part of England.

With the show done and dusted we recovered some sleep and headed for Beaulieu on the Sunday as there was a Mini show on, not a huge Mini fan but interesting nonetheless and some very nice areas around the New Forest.

On the return journey Ronan got chatting to a guy at a filling station, he said he was building a Mk1 Golf and we were welcome to follow him to his shed to have a look. Fearing the worst (robbery etc) we followed anyway. Very pleasantly surprised. It turned out he had a company called Brosport Ltd and built Honda Civic racecars amongst other things!

The Mk1 Golf was somthing else too!

All in all a fantastic trip with great craic and the car was faultless from the air suspension to everything else. By the time I got home I had done 1050 miles, it wasn't even overly bad on fuel. Edited to add a huge thanks to @PeteMoore for the spoiler work, really very happy with it!

As for the next things to be done.....it involves lots of new bits, more paint and another engine to build out of the car!

Last weekend was the first time I had been at GTINIs Castlewellan show, and it certainly lived up to the hype. Fantastic, relaxed show.

I even got a top 15 trophy which was fantastic to get given the quality of cars at the show.

I've now moved to the Orkney Islands for work so getting to work on this is going to be difficult, I will be building up a collection of bits to get the next phase undertaken. Ideally the whole car will be painted before next summer. One things for sure, it won't be taken off the road to start work on it (like the E28 which has sat for a few years now!).

Cool cars

Back in the day when I was a heck of a lot younger, dad had a 87 525i sport in red. Auto. Absolutely loved it and the note of the engine when overtaking as it kicked down gears

And to add, my dad rated that auto box better than his 07 e320 cdi merc

Yea my E28 was an auto (it won't be when it goes back on the road) and the box was really very good. Stainless exhaust on it sounded awesome too on kickdown.

They really were and still are well screwed together cars, just a shame they tend to rust if not keep well, but then again I guess everything does!

I used to polish it etc for him for pocket money. Only thing bodywork ways I ever remember was the laquer lifted on the spoiler. Rest was very good.

LIB 5251 was the reg, nearly sure.

Got the car booked in for paint for the start of January, so now its a mission to get money gathered for that and to get niggly bits of trim gathered, no point spending the money on paint and having tired trim in my opinion!

First round of bits arrived a few weeks back.

Dressing the trim just doesn't work brilliantly and I did try to heat gun some to not great effect. Not pictured is a front numberplate blank, "which you definitely can't get new anymore from" (quote the internet).

Also bought this

Hopefully be able to make it fit neatly and underneath the gaitor.

Still have to order door seals as mine have all shrunken slightly and I don't like using second hand seals that have been on and off. Also some new additional bits of trim etc.
...and I have finally found a manifold for the future engine that looks up to the job (it says E30 on it but they are advertising an E34 one) a downpipe will be interesting to make work with the steering box but thats down the line yet.

Class, I love e34s. Sounds like its only going to get better too.

Cheers, it's getting scary adding prices up though! It maybe won't progress just as quickly in the next year...

Awesome car.
Properly built cars back then, my 93 M5 just turned over 146k miles and there isn't a rattle or squeak from it anywhere.

Thanks @trev 1515 they really were well screwed together, everything has been simple to take off and put back on.

Only issues this has given has been the glove box falling off on opening and the speedo and rev counter occasionally going nuts!

Mostly a useless update. The date for the respray has been delayed until March, no bad thing allows for a bit more time to gather more money/parts and although I'll be missing Dubshed likely I won't have to do a horrific 2 day rebuild before the show this year!

I've to order a set of these back lights, will tie in with the rest of the smoked lights.

I also have borrowed the steering wheel from the subaru. Not the actual wheel but identical to this without the carbon effect sti bit.

There are a few other bits and pieces in the pipeline for the interior, for example getting rid of the white piping on the seats, probably get the seat centres redone too.

The engine build side of things is on hold until the rest of the cars done. Aiming for the Rollhard show in England in August most likely as I have a few weddings and stag dos between now and July!

Heres a few photos taken by @Reno_LV at the promo shoot for the Cars At The Mill show that @COLIN BURNSIDE and @jayme are organising:
