he will never get a tax book for this car rendering it impossible to sell without pulling a fly one .. cat a and b are for the crusher and not allowed back on the road , i,d try the psni if dvlni cant help

CAT b is for breaking only most scrap yards dont like selling whole cat b cars for this reason they usally cut the roof or/and A/B piller

CAT a is to be crushed eg a fatalitly in the car

cat b can go back on the road there is a loophole i found out about recently.cat b does not mean a vehicle has been badly damaged it just depends on the vehicles value for example a 90s fiesta needing a bit of suspension and a couple of panels replaced wouldnt be worth much to anyone and gets cat b because it is worth more for breaking.ive seen loads of nice hot hatchs and sporty cars get cat b and its a shame could be fixed in no time. There is a interesting thread on passion ford about a 20k mile escort cosworth cat b getting repaired and it is badly damaged and imo shouldnt be repaired. insurance companys should remove the chassis numbers and id but wont because they wont make as much money on the salvage.

Cat D:Fixable Within Cars Value
Cat C: Fixable But More That What Its Worth
Cat B: Parts Only, Then Vehicle MUST Be Destroyed
Cat A: Crusher Only

When I Was In A Repair Centre For A Few Months, Ive Seen Some Lovely Cars That Wouldnt Take Too Much To Fix Using Used Parts But They Were Cat B Due To Age...

As said there are cases where cat b cars have been repaired and put back on the road.

yes you can if its reshelled
Yup and yup. Have seen these myself. Randomly the first time was Lee Sharpe's (ex footballer) old M3. His was reshelled and sold as Cat B. Cant recall how it was sold on in terms of vins etc though :worried:

cat b can be put back on the road, reshelled most likely.

Tax book will be issued from the dvlni.

i have fixed many write offs over the years, all cat c and d. cat b has to crushed after any usefull bits have been stripped, report it to the police and the dvlni, if you got caught driving that car it would be taken off you and crushed. i heard about 1 on the road last week. a 3series converible!!! and i no which salvage yard it came out off. a salvage dealer is in the **** for selling it! when you get your deposit back name and shame to see if its the same person/car

A CAT B, the tax book WILL be issued, taxed and insured with no problems. With that in mind....

i had a car that had been flood damaged, CAT B because of its age and it was fully legit. Registered it in N.I after being brought from england too, with no problems.

Doubt the guy has done anything wrong by having it on the road, just has to tell any prospective buyer that the car is a CAT B... obv hasnt in this case, deposit back please. Who in their right mind wants a CAT B car either!?

The police/dvlni. Sure same thing happens to people who buy (unknowingly) a stolen car. Car goes back to original owner, the buyer loses all their money and the car....

Unsuspecting consumers
Every year, hundreds of unassuming consumers buy stolen cars and face having their new cars seized by police. Stolen cars are often sold for a quick profit – sometimes to fund other criminal activity like drug smuggling and even terrorism. Thieves mask the true identity of a stolen vehicle by changing its vehicle identification number (VIN).

A consumer who unknowingly purchases a stolen car has no recourse, and no way to get his or her money back when car is seized by police

?? JUst going by what I read...

we are not talking about stolen cars ringers. we are talking about cat b damage recorded cars being repaired instead of broke for parts totally different subject.

I wouldn't give a toss, lol, as long as i don't die in it, Bothered. Wouldn't buy one myself, unless it was perfect car and piss cheap, and i was just going to drive it into the ground, then yeah i'd lift one. But only at silly money.

Rover's!
Short version, car hadn't been re shelled, checked chassis number and engine vin etc, and they where originals.

Car had been on road since Jan 2009 illegally. Sent information onto DVLANI along with copy of HPI check I did, and details of who they where, and what salvage company.

I will not be posting the details on-line, in-case there's more to it, eg, salvage yard bought it repaired from someone else etc or genuine mistake or DVLANI mistake, but its been posted onto DVLANI to get sorted.
