Wing is finished clear for today but got a bloody drip off the can which will need 1500 wet and dry tomorrow to get out then another skim over. Also only managed to fossilise one fly which will also get the same treatment tomorrow. Otherwise I'm happy enough can't wait to get the rotary cracked into it.
Impressive work with the spray can! There is something very satisfying about having a go at these kind of jobs yourself on a low value car which you aren't hugely worried about. I have learned loads by doing jobs on my old Vectra and most of it I would never dream of doing on my Golf GTI.
I know exactly what you mean if I really wanted to I could easily be driving something most would class as a better car but there is just something about this old thing I like and the fact I can fix it and spray it just makes it more appealing. The way it's going though it's going to be a bit like triggers brush.
Wing off tore the inside out of one of the torx screws so grinded the wing off in true George fashion and worked at until I got it out must get the Dremmal out a put a slot in the top of it to screw it back in.
I ended up having to weld and spray my drivers rear arch myself as I couldn't justify the £***s it was going to cost to fix it.
Took me the entire Easter week to do it and it turned out better than expected. Biggest drawback is not being able to spray proper 2k lacquer.
First 2000 grit rub Down and two passes with good old rough as g3. Colour is dead on and the wing fits grand happy enough for a 20 quid wing and 15 quid worth of paint. Now onto the Maguires 205 and 105.
Not gonna sand any more at my drip mark gonna Finnish everything first then touch it in and compound off. Really don't want to rub through as tempted as I am to fix it.
(wish I was a pro like @big_pete but I'm not so will have to do for now).
I have always found if used properly and lots of rubbing down and compounding rattle cans can leave an acceptable finish. No show queen or even to stare at up close but to park in Asda to get the shopping in its grand. Still haven't polished it yet but but old vrs new I still think it was worth doing.
If it wasn't for the drip in it which i have flatted out but as the drip had bubbles in it it has left a little mark i dont like but il work something out (professional advice welcome) its actually spot on. colour wise it's never gonna be factory but for a 17 year old beater that gets nothing but abuse it's super. Really not looking forward to the volume of work to compound the other 3 corners.
Gonna redo the 16" silver and keep it original ish looking as the black mv1,s make it a bit 'Polish drug dealer'. Service it and hopefully be all done by the end of next week.
Nowhere near as skilled but this was the back door of my daily beater after I attacked a rust hole near the bottom then polished up the rest of the panel (back arch and front door were done later that day)
Drivers side finished green 3m pad and g3, blue pad and megs 105, black hole and nattys paste only cause I had it all lying in the garage. Swapped out the green pad for a stiff foam pad to give me more cut on the new lacquer thankfully no strike through and overall happy enough 'man on a galloping horse and all that' as said above
Drivers side before
Drivers side and boot finished. Took the time to touch in all the we scratches and 2000 grit them down again before.
Now onto the other side and the front headlights are gonna need a refurb too. Advice needed what can I clean my wheels with that will remove the baked on crap decided they are in ok shape not gonna refurb them just clean them up do rightly
