“AC Cobra”-ish. I haven’t recently won the lottery, so this is actually a Pilgrim Sumo MK3 by Pilgrim Motorsport.
I’ve had a list of childhood poster cars I’d like to own one day and I’ve tried to slowly make my way through those, and the next one that I wanted to tackle was an AC/Shelby Cobra.
I’ve been looking at them for quite a while but it’s difficult to find the right spec, colour, engine, build quality, kit vs factory build etc.
I had awful thoughts of a big block 7.5L and an affordable one popped up, but thankfully someone put a deposit on it before I could be foolish enough to buy it.
I really wanted one in blue with white stripes, Halibrand style Cobra wheels, cream interior, manual five speed, and obviously a V8. (Shockingly there are a few out there with pinto engines).
I went back and forward between an iron Chevy engine block and the aluminium Rover block, and ended up deciding to go with the latter due to the weight savings, local available knowledge, as well as numerous other things.
Eventually this one popped up at a very reasonable price and a deal was done!
Boat to Scotland this morning and a very quick turnaround straight onto the return boat, followed by a very cold 70mile drive home.
It has a fantastic old school V8 cammy burble on tick over. Given the wet roads on the drive home I didn’t get a chance (read have the balls) to give it a proper wide open throttle blast as it feels like it’ll take a while getting used to the unique blend of torque and handling. I’ve a feeling that if I drove this like I drove the Tiger I probably wouldn’t see my next birthday.
TL;DR, V8 noises, spinny wheels, many smiles.
Obligatory boat pics
Few pics squeezed in at home
Will get more pics up when it’s got a good clean inside and out and had a few adjustments made. And a video of course, when I get a chance.
