Surprised there’s no threads here on this yet,

All the talk on mainland forums are of mad insurance premium increases so thought I’d run a few early quotes and they’re mental…

Cheapest I can find on any compare sites for an F80 M3 with 25 years exp, 15 ncb, garage etc…. is £1400!
(Pretty sure I was getting quotes last year for £650)

Then tried a few normal daily cars like a 2015 335d and it’s £1100!

I’m guessing these prices will be the new norm?!
Interested to see how others here in NI are faring with their quotes …

I know of a serial collision causer. She's had several and its been her fault every single time. She has had courtesy cars out for months on end and even managed to wreck one of those. People like that are part of the problem and their insurance premiums should reflect that to the point that the insurance cost takes them off the road.

Maybe a nice expensive driving course before being allowed to insure a car again if you are found to be at fault would help.

Bad drivers need punishment and good drivers needs to be rewarded. No claims discount system is a joke.

Police are part of the problem too, they don't want to know. Budget, paperwork reasons or whatever. Back in my earlier driving years I was pulled for the most minor of things, most instances was a ticking off and a bit of education.

It's a free for all these days.

On the price side of things I remember the Golf R costing me £220 for the year 😭

£800 fully comp with the Impreza. 12 years NCB and 34.
Double what I was paying for my £500 category C 25 year old Toyota Celica so not bad in the slightest.

On the plus side insurance for the Motorbike has dropped from £300 to £280. Alright for something with Ferrari performance!

Premium last year was £398, renewal was £867. Spent 3 evenings shopping around and got sorted for £484.

Full no claims protection, key cover, legal, glass etc

Edit: Admiral, Direct Line, LV etc, all the go to big hitters were quoting in the £800's.

Out of interest ,where did you shop around to get cheaper?
I’ve always had amazing cheap quotes using compare sites from random companies I’d never heard of which were always cheaper than ringing around..
Seems I’ll have to ring around when renewing

I start with comparison sites for a baseline price then work from there.

There are loads of random companies as you say that come up and generally i tend to ignore them. However, it brings up places I never thought of like RAC, M&S, Co-op and so on.

I then do a bit of Googling for customer reviews (take with a pinch of salt) and start phoning my list.

By talking on the phone I managed to get key cover (2021 Audi, price of a key would bankrupt me) , courtesy car and legal cover added on for £10.

Underwriter here. Not for motor but we have a fleet book, and our mainland counterparts have a large private motor book.

Can't speak for every insurer but for us all our rates have had to get larger increases put in across the board. Not just motor, but commercial business too. Of course there's a strive for profit but that's any business. Our company at least aren't exactly sticking the arm in. For example, we had a number of customers who lost their cars in the recent fire at that airport carpark (not naming it so this doesn't come up on a Google search lol). We agreed to waive their standard excesses and are giving them consistent updates to try and get them sorted as soon as possible.

The jist is that the costs of everything has gone up in dealing with claims.

- Issues getting companies to actually repair cars. Our company has had to re-arrange their existing deals with their Repairers to pay over and above the (now increased) standard rates just to get cars in ahead of those of other insurance companies.
- Delays getting cars in for repairs means courtesy cars are needed for longer periods, and the costs of those have gone up due to scarcity of supplies of the cars.
- issues getting the actual parts from manufacturers means further delays and expense.
- massive increases in repair costs including paint.
- greater complexity of modern cars means more expensive parts, higher number of parts and scarcity of getting them. For example lots of wiring looms used to come from Ukraine, and manufacturers have had to scramble to get new parts manufactured elsewhere, new deals with different parts manufacturers or new factories.
- most motor insurers have ran their motor and fleet books at a loss or as close to even as possible due to the competition from other insurers. They usually try to make money elsewhere, such as on property insurance.
- insurer's general running costs up lots.
- the actual numbers of claims are rising as are numbers of fraudulant claims
- solicitors and court costs up lots plus regulatory changes which means liability payouts will be increasing.

The last motor claims meeting I attended last year they'd stated claims repair costs have more than tripled, even on relatively simple cars like a Fiesta. The costs have to go somewhere unfortunately and that's being reflected in the percentage of our renewal premiums.

I'm not looking forward to my own renewal next March as I'll have three to renew at once ffs and none of them are standard so less options when shopping around :worried:

My car insurance also went up this year, renewed in March. Strangely my house insurance went down.

A friend in work was renewing last week, went from £700 to £1400. That’s a Q7, full no claims and no change in circumstances this year.

Your impreza is eligible for a classic policy @mikey I was paying about £180 on it.

I’ve found insurance good this year but only with one particular company. I tried quotes on the comparison sites in July this year for the lotus and was getting £700+.

Somehow Admiral are doing it for £330 FC, I got a hefty discount for agreeing to insure my daily driver (renewal in November) and home insurance (renewal April 24) with them, quotes are locked in. The quote for the daily is less than what I was paying for the last year as was the home insurance quote.
@Coog have you tried a multi car quote with Admiral? I think you can have up to 5 cars. I’m sure some of your fleet will be eligible for classic too.

Tried numerous places but they all required the car to be garaged overnight, which I don’t have! Was getting quotes in around that if it would have been garaged on a classic policy 😢 According to Adrian Flux it should drop a bit next year (I’ll believe it when I see it) as this is my first time insuring a ‘performance’ car and the first year is always higher. In fact a lot of insurers wouldn’t touch me because I’ve never had experience with an almighty 300 odd horsepower before (makes no odds I’ve been driving Golf Rs with work and liter motorbikes for years) 🙄

No not yet will look into it. My classic is (or was) quite good value so will see how that pans out. The van, R and house are discounted with one insurer and the rest are under a specialist policy. Plus I've business, motorbike and trailer insurance too. A bit first world promblemy but at the same time if I want to use them then I need to insure them.

My last Mustang GT was £500 at 28 years old.
Last year the Bullitt was £507, this year was £700 at 33 years old, but I had to go for quite a big excess. Anything under £1k excess was well over £1k premium.

Tiger dropped 6% this year strangely and came in at £200 including breakdown recovery etc.

Hateful when it's something you require legally to drive and you have to pay more when your individual circumstances have not changed.

Always wondered whatever happened to the introduction of this bill, put it down to Stormont not running?

Similar to others we’ve a fair few to insure and admiral multicar has always been the cheapest even when comparing to classic policies, pretty sure I’ve more than 5 on it although the series is considered a van so maybe that comes into it.

But from what I’m hearing from others even multicar policies are shooting up.

The best thing about it for me is being able to add cars temporarily for say a month for at most £40.

@mikey when I had my GC8 Impreza it was on a classic policy and wasn’t garaged for about the first 2 years I owned it. I’ve always used Abbey Autoline in coleraine and found them very good. The car being garaged might be a new requirement now though. That was back between 2017-2020.

What way does it work with everything needing renewed at separate times? Do they just let you slip on another car as it policy ends?

Everything renews at the same date, so if you add something new half way through you only pay half a year’s premium which is also nice. Only thing is it means one big lump payment.

The online changes to your own policy dont work though which means you have to phone to make a change which is a bit of a melt but bar that I’ve zero complaints.

Having a van actually give a nice reduction as well, I think the policy for the series (van) was something like £100 more than a classic one but it gave well over £100 reductions on the other cars.
