Might aswell post the progress as it allways great to have a build thread time line

This is a conversion I've wanted to do for a life time, just ask @IL

Personally I think it will be the best bang for my buck as a drift car with a friend buying a 3l m3 caged drifter for 10k just a few weeks ago and it not being 10ks worth of power in theory I'll have a few hp more for half the price and a lot better spec

Plus when a m3 throws a leg out of bed he's literally up **** creek where I can just keep throwing cheap b44s at mine

Anyyy who

I bought this daily back in june maybe
04 320d es 6 speed tested for a locka months for a neck breaking £400

Then for some silly reason we painted it nardo can't think of a logical reason why

Two non skebby wings and a genuine m3 bumper for £20

Tyres where scrap on mv2s these where forsale ideal for drift cars being e39 offset

Very eastern European spec I know but I never fitted the smaller tyres or the coils just ended up dailying it because its a silly diesel car it'd very very hard to like a diesel e46

More updates in a few mins

Then with contacting a lot of engish sellers of anything with a 4.4 in it and not being able to give people money I decided to go down X5 route as I do alot of selling car parts all round Europe X5 Is a no brainer as there's more value in them than an e39 or a daft 7 series

This absolute peach and I mean peach came up in Omagh and about a week of haggling and £1100 later it was on the lorry

2001 X5 4.4 e53 sport
120k
Fault free immaculate car tested to April with the most raceyest set of 22s and 4 new tyres

I haven't found a word that best describes the interior colour as yet

This is brilliant! Before you dismantle the x5.... Can you cut the exhaust off at the downpipes and make some real rash limiter videos?? 🙊

More info

I'll be using my origonal 6 speed diesel box mated to the v8 no gash adaptors etc

Flywheel is orded hopefully here Monday

X5 also has a 4.0something rato rear diff I'll steal that as welll

I kneeled down under an X5 last year and said aye sump will be fine

on the lift turns out that was a big stretch of the imagination 🤣

Bought a full rwd setup just incase can sell what's one not used anyway

Then to the reason the I got over 1k off the x5, it's pishing oil and pishing oil it is, well not really just looks bad needs a v plate gasket and rear crank seal

Both ordered from bavarian along with oe flywheel bolts

Pics of the rather ignorant sump

As you can see it's inline with hub ctr as is e46 subframe

I've a brutal amount of parts been arriving flat out but will show as there used

More pics of engine removal and cleaning soon

A fella I used to work with from Middlesbrough did quite a few of these conversions for drifting. He would have bought 540 & 740’s with short MOTs and drove them until the MOT expired. He would have then used the running gear for drifting and parted out the rest of the car.

2wd sump is looking like a no go tbh not as easy as first thought either heavily mod or a steel conversion sump

Other than that gearbox cut and shut will work fine

Got keys to new place today so delighted
